The daggers are being sharpened for SOD. I tell you something he is 100% right regards the comments he made. Bristol City Fc is a big club. His words Bristol City the team is a millon miles away from the club. Why bad decisions right from the top, blame the board for where we sit. This manager is working on a budget, no other manager has had for a very very long time.
Like I said on another thread, having listened to an exciting commentary on the radio where it seemed like we were constantly on the attack and did everything other than win, I was enthused that we are closer to getting it right. So it was ****ing depressing to hear the calls to Radio Bristol after the game calling for SoD to go and you could tell that having listened to the same commentary, 20p was pretty shocked by it too. The reaction is I am afraid reflective of the typical Bristolian attitude to supporting sport in this City. The expectation of failure has now become so ingrained that anything below a perceived level of performance is deemed unacceptable demanding dismissal and we now expect our team to perform BEFORE we start shouting. Typical apathetic, lazy, reactive (not proactive) Bristolian approach, Portsmouth fans put us to shame and make a complete mockery of this.. Frankly, we could win the next 38 games on the bounce and it still wouldn't make any difference, some who have decided that because our manager doesn't excite THEM, he is clearly incapable of motivating the players and is therefore no good and needs to go... This is their prerogative HOWEVER, they have no clue what goes on behind the scenes, only a perception and this is flawed logic as it is pretty clear that the players are still playing for SoD and following the maxim of playing PASSING football. Not the sign of a manager who has lost the dressing room really is it. Looks like some want to throw SoD out 9 games into a new team (or 13 if you count the 4 cup games which include 3 WINS) - the previous failures mean there is no patience for anything that is not an instant success. The vitriol of the callers/tweeters to 20p's show was frankly really depressing when we need to get behind the team. I've lost patience with this approach so that's it, I am done, its not really down to this board as it is generally a pretty good bunch. I am just tired of the witch hunt.. Good luck to all
He needs to reassure us all with a few wins, and a regular line-up that works. Dont forget, he joined us Autumn last year (and took us down once already). A manager is judged on his results, and SOD has none to speak of. I have been loud in my support for GJ, KM and McD, and up til now SOD also. But I can see this turning into a tragic season that will take a decade to recover from if things continue as they are
He has had ample time to turn things round in the Championship and now to put together a competitive team at L1 level - He has failed Few of us were expecting miracles, nor see us running away with the league, but given our fixtures we should have had at least 3 league wins by now - He has failed This (barring Marv and Louis) is his team, there can be no more excuses - He has failed We are still falling down the football pyramid spectacularly, we could easily have been bottom of the pile this morning - He has failed Someone else needs to have a go now as this regime is just not working - He has failed Steve Lansdown - You my friend are the biggest failure of the lot and I hold you solely accountable for the total mess we are in
A famous saying you are only as good as the players you have. This lot are the second highest paid squad in the division. I let you guys decide where the fault sits.
He signed them Red Robin.... He has been in charge almost a full season and has nothing to show for it other than unfathomable comments to the press, and a squad/game plan that makes us all think we are going to struggle against PORT VALE!!!!
The only player he did not either sign or promote through the youth yesterday was Baldock. So surely it can't all be the player that SoD made captains fault? Why blame the players? The high earners have slowly been shipped out or due out on the next summers transfer window.
Sorry but the lack of patience displayed by some of our fans just astounds me. Yes the results are disappointing but it is clear that SO'D is basically following the remit given him by the club. We have all been crying out for young hungry players - he has given us that. People said last season they could cope with losing if only we had a few local youngsters in the team. He has given us that - but apparently those that said this now aren't happy cuz we are still losing. The man talks more sense then the last 3 managers put together. Just because he doesn't deliver speeches like some slimy politician who is used to putting out inspiring sound bites people hammer him. Jeez - it isn't his fault that we have had 3 years of misery. Given time and some more tweaking things will get better. We know we won't go up this season (only the deluded thought we might) so as long as we don't go down it doesn't matter if we finish 9th or 18th does it? We need to write off this season in terms of league finish but look for the positives with a much more exciting approach to the football and the prospect of young players who could really come on if the fans actually give them some encouragement. Lets get behind SO'D and the team and stop trying to self-destruct! Rant over.
I've said previously that we need to be patient with SoD and the this transformation. I find him boring to listen too but normally 2 days later it sinks in (hopefully the players are not as stupid as me) IMO we are a few things away from destroying other teams and one of them is movement. When we are playing the ball back and sideways across the defence, you are affectively allowing the opposition to re group. The midfield and forward line need to learn to create space. JET is an enigma to me, for 2-3 minutes a game simply fantastic, similar to Jacki when we had him. But the other minutes he is just ineffective. So we need to utilise the best out of him, and I see him as a winger sorry to everyone who disagrees but this is my opinion. He can show off his slinky skills and score by cutting in from the wing. Using him there allows us to use another forward which whenever we go with 2 up front we look better. SoD should and with confidence sort out the movement, but I don't think he will move JET.
Is his remit to take us into Division 4 at the first attempt ? If so I'd say he is exceeding the clubs expectations.
one of the worst things is twatter, I don't do twatter and I don't do that other thing face bo***ks or whatever its called..hiding behind in anoniminity, most of these people wont say anything to your face... I would like to see an open debate with 20p Sod 4 members of the team 2 from the board and 2 from on here and a twatter picked at random from the after show.... it would last 20 secs, the time it took to introduce everybody................. eeeeeeeeeeeeer uuuuuuuuuuuuum well er uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuumm
To be fair to the Radio Bristol programme / callers - there were slightly more who were understanding of where we are and what the club/SoD is trying to do At the game I thought that in the main, the crowd stayed with the lads. 23 shots is encouraging. When Baldock had that late chance everyone was off the bench thinking he had scored - I was really pleased too see that - shows they are all together
Problem with that is there is only 4 defibrillators in the ground....that many heart attacks will cause a problem...............
