Got told something very disturbing tonight. A Leicester supporting mate told me we are becoming worse than Newcastle for ridiculous expectations. I obviously told him he was stupid. But now I think about it. We've lost another manager and lot some more games From reading this forum, others and my opinion the general consensus seems too be; - We've played bad football and bored the attendance for the last 4-5 years (obviously some games exempt) - 2 proven premier league managers in Bruce and O neill haven't been good enough. - New methods (Di Canio) aren't good enough for us. - We all think we have a pretty poor team. Newcastle have been ridiculed for claiming a lot less in my opinion. My main point though is. Why are we so angry. Why have the last 3 seasons been so disappointing? Is it because the football is ****? Is it because the players are all overpayed prima donnas? Or is it because not one of the ultimately depressing seasons mentioned ended in relegation as they previously have and we haven't had the euphoria of season of winning most of the games in the championship? If we stay up this year it will be our 8th consecutive season in the top flight. That hasn't happened since 1957. And in that time Coventry, Middlesbrough, Fulham have had longer consecutive stays in the premier league. I haven't looked at the old 1st division but I'm sure theres probably loads more. So I think it could be a lot worse. My first season I can really remember was the year we won the 1st division under Reid. I've never seen us finish lower than 23rd in the country. And apparently the last ten years have been rough. Who had it worse. Us 00's kids or those before us?
We've been up and down like a tart's drawers in my time (since early 70s) and, frankly, I could do with a bit of success. That to me is either winning something or having a good team playing good football. Our current run in the Prem has not served up much of either so I don't think it's too much to want a change. p.s. bollocks to Newcastle's deluded.
I think fans opinions on football have changed due the nature of players wages, prices to get in the ground going up, constant 24/7 media attention and forums like this where fans can get whatever off their chest. All headlines are overhyped as are all games. Would be great to go to the match and have a great day out for £20, that includes drinks everything. To make a day of the match these days would cost £80 -£100 depending on how much you drank. I think now that we so not have standing the atmosphere has diminished. Over zealous policing and stewarding don't help. However J don't see football as an excuse to go on like a horse punching moron. I think people are getting fed up with players who entertain less and less. It's all about pace and power. Where has the skill gone? Problem is the club and press hype an upcoming season. Everyone is told to expect top ten and when it doesn't happen everyone gets pissed of. Maybe the club should be saying, look there has been a lot of changes stopping up will be a bonus. They all instead talk ****e. Okay I've rambled on enough, hook me back up to the intravenous wine drip........nurse...........NURSE!!!
I totally Agree but what's better? Mid table mediorcrity with ****/****ish football - I think that's all we'll or anyone other than the usual's will have until another arab comes along. Or try to change it and go down playing well with a philosophy. Charlton and Leicester are both teams who tried that and have never been seen since.
Offer me a season of sh*t* football and 4th bottom come May.... I for one am snapping your hand off marra!
I'd loved to have had all that for £20. 2003 was my first independent season. I worked at Sports Soccer in the Metro Centre. All of my £117 wage which went in on the Friday night went on cans for the Friday and Saturday. Pints in Idols before the match then getting as pissed as I could unitil Beach (if I could get in) or Annabels otherwise.
I claim to be born at the worst time of all. The first relegation in the clubs history in the year of my birth! OK I did have 73 but the ten relegation more than counter that! You kids don't know your born!!!! Just to add I was to young to remember the Bank of England team as we'll! And I had to wait 45 years to see us beat Liverpool at home!,,!!,!
I think my 'era' is worse than yours marra.... I started going to Roker in 1975 (age 6)... So I've had to put up with the same sh*t as you .. BUT.. without the cup glory in '73 !?!?
