Is he gonna be the main man now like? Many were hoping for the Altidore/Fletcher combo, but now Giac has hoyed his hat in the ring for a place, what's peoples views now? This is obviously when the 2 forwards are fit mind.. ........................................................................................................... KEVIN BALL insists Sunderlandâs stop-gap coaching team will look to get even more out of Emanuele Giaccherini in his new surroundings. Giaccherini was solely deployed out wide by Paolo Di Canio after arriving in a £6.8million move from Juventus during the summer. But the Italian international was re-deployed into the hole behind lone striker Jozy Altidore for Tuesdayâs Capital One Cup win over Peterborough and responded with a goal and arguably his most impressive display for the Black Cats. http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport...t-out-of-giaccherini-for-sunderland-1-6089830
So he seems as if he is going to be deployed in the number 10 role behind Altidore or more famously known on here as the Sess role. When Sess scored and assisted against us on Sat I would have loved to see some of people's faces on here who nearly cheered when we sold him, another master stoke by M. Byrne but moving on, the same fate for Giac awaits as he enters the "Sess Role" where some fans expect 20 goals a season and MOM performances every game. Back in the real world we shouldn't expect wonders from him as he offers very similar attribute to Sess in this role. Good, close control and his passing looks much better and possibly more accurate shooting but not sure on that yet as its probably too early to tell. He probably wont be as physical as Sess, which could cause a problem but lets wait and see how he gets on. Again though its a case of a very talented footballer who can play in various positions across midfield and attack and just because he doesn't fit into one specific position it will probably mean he gets slated on here by dinosaur posters who still believe in 4-4-2. Interesting to see how this formation/player selection works against Liverpool on Sunday but when the new manager comes in this will probably go out the window, frustrating times indeed.
I think the role will be a deeper one, like Cazorla at Arsenal or Coutinho at Liverpool. He will be the play maker in a 3 man midfield. It puts more pressure on Johnson and whoever plays on the other wing to become goalscorers. Giacc is not a natural goal scorer he is a creative hard working player. He will get a few goals but is mainly there to create for others. Its going to be up to Altidore to start putting chances away. This is the way the top teams play and it should be the system we adopt too. The days of playing 442 are over.
Marty tried 4-6 a couple of times and it failed, I think it exposed our weaknesses as I recall -like, we weren't very good.
