What has happened to this ace, and why is he never mentioned by Malky...he doesn't seem to figure in the development squad? Looking at the costs and what he is drawing from the club it seems outrageous that nothing is explained about his situation. In the earlier days, he was said to be one for. the future, but now nothing! Malky Mackay rarely gets a transfer wrong. In his time at Cardiff City, he hasnât signed many duff players. Looking back to the season he first arrived, he signed an influx of frees and low-budget transfers and you would be cruel to say any of them were duff...Brayford? Rudy Gestede, though inconsistent, has had some big moments. Filip Kiss, who he signed on loan initially, didnât play much as we secured the Championship but did play a key role the season before even getting a go at Wembley. In our Championship-winning year, it would be cruel to say any player was particularly poor. Jordon Mutch maybe didnât fulfill the early potential but grew as the season went on and played a key role as Cardiff secured the league. But, there must be an exception that proves the rule, and Etien Velikonja is that man. It would be cruel for me to call him rubbish; in fact, I simply canât have an opinion on him as he just hasnât played. The young Slovenian was signed in the summer of 2012 and came with a lot of promise. Twenty goals in just over 40 games for Maribor the season before had helped them into the Champions League and led to Cardiff bidding around £2m for Etien. It all looked great â when we spanked four past Newcastle in pre-season, he got in on the act with two. A gem, we cried. Just where does Malky find them? Malky doesnât get many things wrong but, it would seem, Etien would be one of them But, soon enough, it all unravelled â we just never saw him again. He was relegated to the development squad, scoring goals week in, week out but hardly ever getting a look in for the first team. Even when injuries robbed us of key players, he never got a place in the squad. It took Malky until the final game of the season to give Etien a starting role â Hull away, a game with nothing riding on it for us. The fans had been waiting patiently to get a glimpse of their mystery man and⦠well, he gave a performance that was nothing to write home about. With pre-season well and truly in full flow, and Etien not even travelling on the Swiss training camp, his days look numbered. Indeed, Reading are waiting in the wings to take him on loan. Malky doesnât get many things wrong but, it would seem, Etien would be one of them.
Would like to see him actually get a game before passing any sort of judgement on him. Seems like we paid 2 mill for him and then hung him out to dry. Maybe he made a pass at Malky's mrs or something. Starting to get the same uneasy feeling about Cornelius.

Cornelius seems to have been a bit injury plagued since he joined us. I'm sure he'll feature soon, I'm waiting for him too! Although Etien seems to have been a strange one... We'll have to wait and see on him, although I think a loan move would be good for him
In other news I just saw Mcnugget has gone on loan to Bolton for a month. You'd think he'd get some decent game time there.
There is no way Cornelius will start if City play 4-5-1. Mackay didn't even have Gestade on the bench v Spurs. Cornelius will be no use without a winger to deliver from the byeline. So easy to say in hindsight, and he hasn't played so he can't really be judged but the money spent on him appears excessive when City would have been better picking up a decent winger.
On the contrary I think a big man up front is preferable when playing 4-5-1 because the 2 wide men can push up when attacking and become a 4-3-3
We should pay him up and allow him to return home. Every manager makes mistakes. Cornelius has been give a 5 year deal and is injured. No need for comparisons.
Who would the 2 wide men be? Bellamy is too slow and cannot cross or pass to a team mate, and Noone appears not to be trusted in a PL game.
Very early to write off Noone as a PL player. He'll get his chance and will be an important part of our attack this season, even if he doesn't start every game.
You don't necessarily need pace (although it's probably a lot easier with it), they work it into the wide areas and put balls in the box.
