We hardly ever score from set pieces or long range, our newcommers dont seem to have helped much in that regard, although Bony seems capable defensively in regard to conceding less set piece goals.

I believe Swansea would be capable of being top 4 if we could do those things, but then again ... if Jonjo or De Guzman could bang them from 30 yards, they probably wouldnt be playing for Swansea.

Dyer tries often and he is dire at it to repeat a few commentators comments, is that something we should look for or just be satisfied that we cant the best of the best. We got lucky with Michu, but even he doesnt have the 30 yard screamer in him .. the little touch which decides wether a game ends 0-0 or 1-0 in our favour. That bit of luck

I am an old timer and I cant remember how many times Lothar Matheus .... many of you dont know him, but he did save his team (and national team) with some devastating long shots ... the germans are good at that for some reason.

Against Birmingham we had 2 shots on target according to BBC, but we should have scored plenty in the first half .... only our goalgetters failed. I miss a Hulk in our midfield .. and I am not talking about the Marvel hero.

JDG hit two terrific 30 yard free-kicks in the last two weeks - one against 'Pool and one against Valencia - the latter was a goal.

We don't score like we should from corners. With Bony we are capable of defending corners better - he seems to have a knack of being on the end of opposition corners.

Dyer is just dire on all types of end product - his shooting is in-frequent and not that good, his crossing is not at the level it should be for a winger (jeez that's the one thing they have to be consistently good at).

    Bodde was brilliant wasn't he!

De Guzman knocked one in from 30 yards 8 days ago.
Shelvey goes for the 50 yard chip every other game
Davies and Rangel always have a crack
Bony's got a shot on him

But one thing Dyer has, he is extremely dynamic and unpredictable ... that is actually often good in our games.

I know right, he either runs, or he walks.....so unpredictable for the fans too, which is what frustrates me with him :p

Bony should be more than capable of hitting the target from outside the box but our play is normally from the width so unless it's a pass back towards the 18 yard most of our chances will come within the area ,although both our goals v Palace were from just inside the area so we area capable but too many times we area not clinical or confident? to try shooting

I think we're a bit spoilt with Michu seeing as he's so clinical but I do see everyone's points though, sometimes I think we try to score the perfect goal and walk the ball in the bloody net

I think Dilli is right, we do try to often score the perfect goal .... as matter a fact we do succeed often. It would still be nice to have that Hulk guy ... who really doesnt care about range.

Jimmy Case of Liverpool used to rifle them in from long range. It's a rare skill. Bodde showed he could do it as well, hitting a 40 yarder against Preston away,I think it was.

Back in the day,we had Ivor Allchurch and Herbie Williams, who could put 30 yarders away for fun. No benders/swervers,just sheer power into the ball, and a straight projectory, often leaving the keeper wondering why he'd bothered turning up. They were awesome at it.

De Guzman's recent free kick was top draw, and he should take all similar left sided free kicks just on the off chance he can repeat the feat.

Most prolific strikers get their goals from inside the penalty area, and don't rely too much on long rangers.

If anyone knows boxing the power of your shoot very much depend on how big you are. That is why Bony and Shelvey shoot like an german 88 mm canon.

Smaller players do not (rarely) have that energy and the often need to use technic to pass the opponents goalkeeper on a far distance. Teams with physical larger players can just score with brute force.

When it comes to corners and other kind of set pieces players like Bony, Shelvey, Chico, Michu (and Williams) make Swansea much better then we were last season. We just need to be better to hit them (in the head).

The season is only 2 months old, things take time.

Relax, we will do just fine.

Daniel, Great goal but scores like this only come along once in a while. What we need to be doing is improving our conversion of run-of-the-mill chances. Michu is the only player I feel confident in to produce a clinical finish and even he will admit that he's missed a few easy ones already this season. Not that I'm criticising Michu. He is a fabulous all round player and I wish there were more like him in the side - not only for his goals but for his attitude and work rate as well.

Mind you, I totally agree that we should have more long distance shots as the odd goal they produce is always welcome. Candidates apart from Michu? Bony obviously; Shelvey if he concentrates and keeps his head down; Rangel strikes a mean ball, as does Chico on occasion. But for now, I'll settle for us scoring more of the simple ones.

It's just not our game to shoot from 30 yards. Just like with Barcelona, it's been hammered into our players that we are more likely to score by passing it in from 30 yards rather than by shooting. It's just good discipline.
