I guess I'll have to reserve judgement until he's actually played wearing the Immortal Hoops. As for his age - I wish I was 33.
Trying to take a positive perspective, is this Tony and Harry's way of dealing with where we are now, without screwing us for the future? The long term view is that we want to return to the Premiership and have quality players, who will keep us there. As we all know, problem is those quality players don't want to play in the Championship. Surely that means the best solution is to bring in short term, quality loans, and then when we are back in the Premiership, spend the summer investing for the long term. Looking at it that way, his being 33 isn't so relevant, so long as he scores the goals to get us to a place where we will be more attractive to better, younger players.
33 year old Uruguayan striker is in for the season. Was brilliant not sure now but very experienced. Could be a good influence on Austin etc.
The guy's been training with us for a few months. That's plenty of time for him to a) get to know the squad; b) understand how tough the Championship can be physically; and c ) impress the coaches and the manager enough that it's worth a 3-month punt on him. Sure, he may have been helped by the fact we have so many injury concerns up front, but he wouldn't have been given the chance had he been crap or disruptive.
All we can do is to welcome the bloke into the family. Harry's judgement this season see's up clear at the top so he must be doing something right. Short term contract as well, nice to see the corridors of power are learning.
I am sure that if he does well he will remain until the end of the season. At 33 his career is not over, so a few good games with us puts him back in the shop window, or at least a few recent games on his show reel.
We've never heard of him. He's trained with us. Harry wants him. He's signed. He's a Hoop. He'll get my full support. He'll either be a dud or a great bit of business, interesting times.
Good luck to him. For three months we can't lose much even if it fails to work out. The report quoted from the offie, stated that it's subject to international clearance. No mention of a work permit, so I'm assuming that he has an Italian or Spanish passport. Is he currently part of the Uruquay squad or have his international days gone?
Havent't heard about him in years, didn't think he was 33 though, thought he was younger than that. When he was at Monaco he was one of the most sought after forwards in Europe, Sevilla got him and after one good season there I can't remember hearing about him since. If he can reproduce some of that earlier form then he will be awesome, but the jury is out for me.
We needed a short term stop gap, Arry went and got one. Hopefully turns out well just need him to get us to the next window. Relatively pleased but know little to nothing about him.
