By the sounds of the rumors Paolo had to go, what worries me is the manner. The board should have evaluated the situation and made a decision off their own back without the players having to go to them in person.

This brings me onto the players. Does anybody find it strange how half the squad have done **** all for 3 managers. They didn't pull their weight for Bruce but us fans took the flack for his dismissal (unfairly imo) but with MoN and more so Paolo they've had an undeniable hand in both of their dismissals. When does this end? What if they don't like the next manager? What if no manager will please them and they're allround taking the piss. This is what worries me. A lot of these contracts are in the final year. What if they do a bardo and play for a contract, win one and then put their feet up for another 3 years? <yikes>

3 managers had lost the dressing to these lazy ****ers. Coincidence? Can't be surely.

What if we suddenly start getting performances from these players? Great. Begs the question as to why they've suddenly started performing and why have you put us fans through so much hell when they could have been putting in more effort?

If they carry on with bad performances it begs the question as to why? You've ousted 3 managers what's your ****ing problem?

Or they could not be good enough full stop, which I think is the case with a lot of these long serving players, in which case it begs the question, Who the **** do you think you are, throwing player power about when you're not fit to even be at the club?

Not a lot of ways these players can come out looking respectable imo. New signings are exempt from my argument 100%

Paolo's problems are self explanatory, yet it's the main issue on most of our lips (I wanted to give him more time but it's looking like sacking hims is a decision I can comfortably accept) I've tried to draw attention to the on going problems in the way the club is being run, from pr to player contracts, but know one seems interested. Now I'm trying to bring up the problems with the players.

Hope we can stop hiding behind the Paolo sacking and study the bigger picture at the club.

There's a guy in professional snooker looking at a lifetime ban for deliberately not trying.

    Same rule should apply

Bri and Bobby - I couldn't agree more. these ****ers better turn up and start playing or they deserve s verbal volley. i don't believe the telegraph article 'we'd run through walls' - if some player did say that they should have a pretty smashed up face by now

We'd be well ****ed!!! It's not really deliberately "throwing a game" by not trying (which is what the snooker lad did) more a case of "can't be arsed and get paid too much to care"

Beardsley said it didn't he? <whistle>

Ive noticed on numerous threads me and you seem to have the view on these players Bri. Is it a case of player power? or a case of replying on relegation fodder and has been Utd men? One way or another, something has to change because what we have been getting served up the last 3 season is absolute dross.

We need someone with PDCs view on discipline, fitness and willingness to drop players regardless of their name, but without his volatile personality.

Someone strong and passionate, but who knows how to man manage without going off like a hand grenade.

Probably a mix mate who knows? Some of them definitely aren't good enough but may be completely innocent. We need definitive clarification to what is going on.

The guy signing the cheques and employing these managers is Ellis Short. Is he treating the managers like ****e, causing them to loss heart which is then passed onto the players? Bear in mind the starts each of the last 3 managers had only to hit the buffers very quickly. The one common denominator? Ellis Short!

Bruce did a great job until all of the strikers left and he could only buy has-beens and relegation fodder.
Mo'N bought little to add to the same squad that, in my opinion, was there purely to avoid relegation.
PDC had no say in the players bought OR sold. Net spend this summer? £1M. Not exactly encouraging is it? Buy poorly or for the future and sell the prized assets.

Maybe instead of blaming the players we need to look to the top. The speed of the leader dictates the pace of the team, and all that!

    Players rule the game....

Given a free reign to do what they like.....

PDC was not the manager according to some reports, just a head coach......so this undermines all the values of a manager.

Already put it to the forum to very little interest. There's 3 clear problems at the club I can see. The first team management which is being rectified, players work ethic which is being papered over with PDCs dismissal and finally the way the club is being run which is also being papered over with PDCs dismissal. The club is all over the place, best players gone and now replaced thanks to previous reckless spending and PR is a disaster yet again.

Lots of interesting speculation in this thread regarding who is to blame for our relative ongoing failure to succeed. Is it the manager, is it the players or is it Ellis ? I do wonder if we should also chuck in to the equation whether the fan base has also had a part to play in our lack of success. We are, and always have been, an extremely demanding fan base - borne out of real passion, and I do wonder if this intense demand does inhibit the confidence being shown by players and managers at the club. When things are going well there is no better crowd than at Sunderland - heavily biased opinion from me of course as I love Sunderland football club, but I don't think this is too far off the mark. When it does go wrong though it is noticeable that the crowd can turn quickly. Maybe we should also look at ourselves and consider what role we have in regard to what is holding back Sunderland football club.

I wonder how our present set of luvvies would have handled Peter Reid's Premier Passion......................running to Bobby Saxton.....

Did the Swindon players ever squeal like our players?

Rugby Union call the Premier League the Andrex league..........its overpriced and soft, sums up our players perfectly

Nothings going change then. I didn't mean to be goading you,i was being serious. I have nothing against your club whatsoever,in fact i like Sunderland, and can vividly remember that FA cup win,Bob Stokoe and his celebration, those marvelous saves from Jim Montgomery. Watched that game with my dad, when i was 10 or something,we were Sunderland fans for the day,and you didn't dissapoint.

I just think you missed a great chance,of returning to those days when some of you treat Steve Bruce like he was a rapist or something, all because he was a Geordie.

    Whatever though <ok>
