Why haven't we sorted the defence in the last 5 years?

I am at a loss that despite changing managers very regularly none of them seem to be able to create/sign/coach a good defensive system? Are the 'new'breed of coaches just not capable?? it has been blatently obvious to anyone venturing to the 'gate' that we have needed a settled and capable pairing at center back for years, so why has this not been sorted???

Five years is stretching a point a bit.

Defence is an XI game. Last season and the one before it was the midfield that was porous. Remember the effect Carey - Bikey and Cisse had?

If City cut out the rudimentary errors e.g two of Swindon's goals stemmed from errors including midfielders, not a lack of shape there would be points and wins on the board. I am confident that this will start to occur.

A obvious problem with recruitment is that some fans have this obsession with the " first ball winning centre that we know we all need". The modern game requires players not greased eye brow battlers. Centre halves that can play and defend are expensive e,g Caulker or rare when affordable e.g Carey.
