Remember when Ricky Sbragia took over temporarily and because he got a couple of decent results to start off with he was kept on as manager. We eventually lost his services. A good man lost. Does anybody see that if Kev gets a result against Posh and Liverpool (it's possible) the board might want to do what they often do and give the manager's job to Kev. This would suit the board as it would be a manager on the cheap but just about all of us can see that it wouldn't work long time and we'd end up losing Kev the same as we lost Ricky. This would be a big loss because I reckon we are happy with Kev doing what he's doing and the nailed on acrimonious parting that will come when we are losing again (or the team decide to get rid of the manager again) will mean Kev will most likely have to move on. I don't want to lose Kev and I don't want to lose to Posh & the Bindippers (good name for a band!) On a different thread, I wonder if we should at least think about McClaren. Nobody in the current list excites me and McClaren has had success with 'boro and in the Netherlands. He failed with England but everybody fails with England. Otherwise, are there no managers currently in a job where we can pay compensation for taking them instead of the current crop of out of work managers, maybe Lennon.
I still think Ballys time here will come but this is not the right time to throw him in. I'd have loved to have seen him under ONeills wing and groomed for management for a couple of years but sadly that dream disappeared last season. We need a stable face that unites the club. I heard someone mention a Reidy/Bally combination last night and having slept on it, the idea is growing. Not saying its z viable option but I do think Reidy has that galvanizing feel and one most fans would maybe throw great support into. If it's a British option then he'd be my pick. We need a couple of years solid stable management and Bally could take over in 2 or 3 years? Thoughts?
Never bring Reidy back. It never works. In his latter days once teams figured out how he played, he never had a plan b and that was our downfall under him.
i often stated in previous posts a lot of the trouble was having walford with oneil,he had nothing to offer to the party at all, with a good number two along side makes a big difference, it would be good for kevin long term if he could fill that role , a very popular man
forward looking is the best way to go -adapt and go with the now keep the past for what they are ... just good memories
Id hope our board isn't naive enough to think that Ball could do it ft. If he had serious aspirations of management he'd be doing it already in the lower leagues. Some of our fans will go nuts for it though if we beat Peterborough and Liverpool.
I think you're putting a lot of faith in a bunch of players who haven't lifted finger for 3 Managers now. If they suddenly start playing like superstars I've got issues as to why they've not pulled their weight for 3 managers (the player power thing) and if they carry on playing pathetic football then I've got issue with them getting another manager sacked when it's them who is at fault. (the player power thing again) Slow steady improvement is the only thing that won't make me question their professionality here. They've set themselves up for this.
Bit unfair on the 14 new guys, Bri. Some of the longer-serving players need getting shot of, but PdC started that process as soon as he had the chance. Just as well in the circs...
Should have been clearer I'm on about the long serving players. New signings are exempt for my argument 100%
We should go for a top manager this time he will cost and want loads of money but that is the way forward, Mancini did it. Because we have to get into that top 4 as soon as possible to get the best players here, we deserve some success after all these years look at Wimbledon, Coventry, Wigan, Swansea, Luton ! they have all won cups after us, let's go for the league cup this season.
