We were constantly being told about Moyes' astute signings on a shoe string ..... Martinez comes in and gets better deals than Moyes ever managed imo
'If Moyes had money to spend ....' he did this summer and how did he do ????

I can't see utd getting sack happy like some clubs <whistle> but just how patient they will be remains to be seen.

    They're not Chelsea...
They are used to consistancy after 375 years of Fergie.
Fergie, one of the leading gods of the united pantheon, gave Moyes his blessing and is his chosen one.

I think they will forgive him as long as he isn't too far off the target. Fergue still holds sway and we all know how his opening season(s) went. If I recall Moyes wasn't immediately successful at Everton either.

If united are 10th at Xmas he will be out the door... but as long as he is within realistic range of top 4 I think he is safe.

United don't yet have a culture of turnover... now if they end up having to can Moyes I don't think the next manager will have as much safety.

It's too early to come to that conclusion, as despite the 3 very astute loan deals he pulled off, only time will tell if McCarthy & Kone prove to be value for the £20m spent on them.

In fairness to Moyes, it's the first time he's had pots of money at his disposal & it seemed to weigh heavy on him, a poor window it has to be said though.

There's no way they'll sack him in his first season imo.

now now tobes... i'm only returning the banter.

you know as well as i do that i was on about carrol being a total waste in 2011. I am after all just returning your "what a waste of money" with a trite but true 2we can afford to waste it" standard answer.

I think i can apply though... reasonable but admittedly stereotypical assumptions about a players ambition to Lukaku and state than on the balance MOST players would use you just like he used west brom for games and the shop window but would have both eyes on a big move if he can get it.

Now barry on the other hand would jump at everton if his contract with city runs out cos he knows he'll never ever see 150k per week anywhere ever again. he's on his way down ;) see?

Lukaku is on his way up, Chelsea are a bad club for any player on the way up. I would totally agree that he will not disappoint you in the slightest this season and is of course again too good for you ;)

    Now: example of players

    1. bucking the stereotype. Benteke... total lack of ambition in signing a new deal.
    2. conforming to the stereotype. Fabregas, pique, RVP, nasri.... all wanted the big move, the first two wanted barca and really chased money too young. Hows about fellaini himself?

3 points from 9.... you also conceeded a few goals badly. this is the same old everton lack of ambition isn't it.....

ok ok banter said sorry but your start wasn't great.

you are paying half barrys wages maybe? thats half of 150k per week and srry but he's a past it donkey.....

now... how can your view on moyes being one dimensional for utd not say something about how the same thing was good enough for everton? To me it says a lot. You could be right about him "saving" everton but the same one dimensional approach also held you back.

Barry's on £120k per week & we're apparently paying around half of that. Past it donkey? He's a year younger than Stevie Me mate......he's been great in his first 2 games btw, one of those players that you never really appreciate when playing for the opposition, but invaluable in your side...

As for the highlighted sentence, a lot of Blues would agree with that & had been calling for Moyes to move on for a while. I never prescribed to that view, as I felt his pragmatic approach was consistently getting the best out of our very limited resources. As much as I find it hard to admit, United are a different beast, a club who win the league every other year & expect to compete with the best in Europe. Moyes was always going to have to adapt his style to succeed there & develop as a manager, the signs are that he's struggling to make that transition. Whereas his successor appears to 'get' his new club straight away & has impressed many sceptics early doors (me included).

How is being a year younger than Gerrard mean he is not past it? Totti is 37 ffs and still doing the business!

Was never a fan of barry but could be good for you. Sometimes those moves with a chip on your shoulder prove pretty good and can sometimes revitalize a player.

He never had any pace, so it's not as if that's an issue for him.

He's very good at what he does i.e. protecting the back 4, winning the ball & playing the ball quickly & intelligently, he's never going to set the World on fire, but his mere presence allows other players to push on & express themselves. Barkley is already benefitting from his arrival.

Youssuf Mulumbu has won possession back from his side more than anyone else (50).

    2. Delph (37)
    3. Lucas, Ramires, Wanyama & Lallana (35)

Lucas Leiva has attempted the most tackles in #EPL 13/14 (26) & won 69% of them.

    Delph (24 - 67%)
    El Ahmadi (21 - 71%)
    Ramsey (20 - 95%)

Not sure, you said he was better than Lucas in that role, yet he doesn't have the stats to show it. I mean as a DM, is that not what they are supposed to do? Schneiderland (sp) did that role well against us on the weekend.

    EDIT: What you said...

He's very good at what he does i.e. protecting the back 4, winning the ball & playing the ball quickly & intelligently, he's never going to set the World on fire, but his mere presence allows other players to push on & express themselves. Barkley is already benefitting from his arrival.

It's not too early at all. My point was Evertonians banged on about Moyes' astute signings like he was the only manager who was good at it, new man comes in and shows immediately that it isn't that hard for a cash strapped club to get some good deals. I'd say you got the signings of the window [except Ozil maybe??] that never happened under Moyes.

Crikey, you're making Barry sound like Parker or (perish the thought) Deschamps...

But I agree with you (twice in one day, must check to see if I've had me jabs up to date...). Seems to me you've picked up a couple of real bargins in loan terms. And if Lukaku decides by the end of the season he really likes Merseyside, I'm sure we can match his ambitions...
