We were constantly being told about Moyes' astute signings on a shoe string ..... Martinez comes in and gets better deals than Moyes ever managed imo 'If Moyes had money to spend ....' he did this summer and how did he do ???? I can't see utd getting sack happy like some clubs but just how patient they will be remains to be seen.
They're not Chelsea... They are used to consistancy after 375 years of Fergie. Fergie, one of the leading gods of the united pantheon, gave Moyes his blessing and is his chosen one. I think they will forgive him as long as he isn't too far off the target. Fergue still holds sway and we all know how his opening season(s) went. If I recall Moyes wasn't immediately successful at Everton either. If united are 10th at Xmas he will be out the door... but as long as he is within realistic range of top 4 I think he is safe. United don't yet have a culture of turnover... now if they end up having to can Moyes I don't think the next manager will have as much safety.
It's too early to come to that conclusion, as despite the 3 very astute loan deals he pulled off, only time will tell if McCarthy & Kone prove to be value for the £20m spent on them. In fairness to Moyes, it's the first time he's had pots of money at his disposal & it seemed to weigh heavy on him, a poor window it has to be said though. There's no way they'll sack him in his first season imo.

Barry's on £120k per week & we're apparently paying around half of that. Past it donkey? He's a year younger than Stevie Me mate......he's been great in his first 2 games btw, one of those players that you never really appreciate when playing for the opposition, but invaluable in your side... As for the highlighted sentence, a lot of Blues would agree with that & had been calling for Moyes to move on for a while. I never prescribed to that view, as I felt his pragmatic approach was consistently getting the best out of our very limited resources. As much as I find it hard to admit, United are a different beast, a club who win the league every other year & expect to compete with the best in Europe. Moyes was always going to have to adapt his style to succeed there & develop as a manager, the signs are that he's struggling to make that transition. Whereas his successor appears to 'get' his new club straight away & has impressed many sceptics early doors (me included).
How is being a year younger than Gerrard mean he is not past it? Totti is 37 ffs and still doing the business! Was never a fan of barry but could be good for you. Sometimes those moves with a chip on your shoulder prove pretty good and can sometimes revitalize a player.

My point was Evertonians banged on about Moyes' astute signings like he was the only manager who was good at it, new man comes in and shows immediately that it isn't that hard for a cash strapped club to get some good deals. I'd say you got the signings of the window [except Ozil maybe??] that never happened under Moyes.

Seems to me you've picked up a couple of real bargins in loan terms. And if Lukaku decides by the end of the season he really likes Merseyside, I'm sure we can match his ambitions...
