    Was it ever in doubt?

You could say that the Billionaire Mike Ashley is even less intelligent for hiring a DOF who doesn't sign anyone.

I completely agree that Mike Ashley is stupid. Nothing else explains his tenure as owner of NUFC.

See there's this misnomer in the world, particularly in business, that claims if you are good at one thing, you are automatically good at everything else. Mike Ashley is a shining example. He was a guy who had one good idea. Once. That was it. His idea was that 'the people' (or chavs) wanted more affordable options than Nike. Bear in mind he's from Maidenhead, which is next door to Slough and quite heavily populated by white trash, so he was in the right area to ask that question. He borrowed some cash from ma and pa, then set up a shop selling cheap crap. The rest pretty much took care of itself (shop does well, makes money, open another shop. Rinse and repeat. Become a billionaire.) He didn't then formulate and deploy an innovative new strategy for sportswear - he just opened a bunch of shops. Then a bunch more. Today he's a billionaire, because he owns a bunch of shops. His one foray into something else - sadly NUFC - has shown that he's a one trick pony. A great trick, I wish I could do it, but just the one.

Now I don't doubt the value of his idea. He pioneered shell suits. But what he isn't right on is ethical values (he had sweat shops running - and probably still does - to increase profits), nor is he right on scruples (many say he bought and ruined Lilywhites 'just because he could') and he certainly isn't the right kind of person to have in charge of a football club. But this is the way it is now - money talks more and says it louder than anything else.

So if you had a choice would you want Mike or Freddie? Bearing in mind the latter screwed us financially and the former pretty much stopped us doing a Leeds?

Obviously Mike, you don't need to tell me anything about Shep - I was constantly vocal in calling for his head, the guy was a - to be kind - complete sham.

But let's not say it like there's a chasm between the two. Are you Derek Llambias? Let's not forget Ashley was partly (mainly) responsible for our relegation - we didn't need to go down to stabilise the club. He tried to sell it three times. And all he did when we went down was protect his investment, there was no love lost there.

It just doesn't strike me as difficult to get right. Sack Kinnear, popularity rises. Sack Pardew and get someone competent in, popularity rises further. Spend a little bit more cash on one or two players. Have balanced books, strong squad, decent manager, no Kinnear. Sit back. Take the plaudits.

Somewhere in between the two would be nice.

Freddie was too much of a supporter and not enough of a businessman. He spent what we didn't have because he so badly wanted us to well and when the success he craved didn't arrive we were inevitably saddled with a debt that we couldn't afford to service.

Ashley is too far the other way, he absolutely will not deviate off his financial plan. All of his risks are the kind of risks that may results in under achievement on the pitch but not off the pitch which as a supporter is difficult to accept.

Ultimately to imrpove popularity amongst the majority of our supports (as pointed out by Roly) he'd only have to relieve Pardew and Joe of their duties and spend 15 - 20 million a season (which he promised he'd do upon buying the club, that 15 - 20 million wouldn't even have to come from his own pocket now due to the tv deal) and the support would be back onside.

I know that last paragragh comes accross as a "want, want, want" attitude but we're in the top 20 richest clubs in the world and given that fact it's not really too much to ask.

Mike is fattening the goose to take it to market, that's all.
He;s stated he just wants his money back so will most likely be able to get rid in the next 6-12 months.
He wants into Rangers so will need to jump ship up there sharpish before their equity grown any more.
He'll make more clear profit north of the border than he will with us.
