According to MotD team tonight PDC had a blazing row with the players on the training ground this afternoon over comment he made in the after match press room concerning getting the players in today to clear the 'rubbish in their heads'? Apparently that led to a hastily arranged meeting with the hierarchy and inevitable to his dismissal. It has been my contention for weeks that he had lost the dressing room and this is nailed on now as the main reason he has been dismissed. His management style was always going to walk a tightrope between discipline and fall out with the players and its now evident that he must have been losing them gradually for some time, culminating in a mass argument at the AOL today, a straw which has broken the camels back. Cant say I am either surprised or disappointed and for me we have acted both swiftly and decisively to ensure whoever comes in has every opportunity to turn this round quickly. Get it right and I have said all along we have a squad capable of a top 10 finish but one PDC was never going to get the best out of. I will await any news this week with some excitement and interest. Sunderland sack Paolo Di Canio after major BUST-UP with senior players 22 Sep 2013 22:31 Two old heads within the squad criticised the Italian's man management and told him they were sick of his constant criticism Gone: Di Canio has been sacked by Sunderland Tony Marshall Paolo Di Canio was last night sacked by Sunderland after a major bust-up involving senior players. The Italian held a fiery training ground inquest with his squad after the 3-0 defeat to West Brom and the disastrous fall-out ended his reign at the Stadium of Light. With owner Ellis Short taking fright at the club’s disastrous early season form, Di Canio and his squad held an inquest yesterday at the Academy of Light. But Di Canio found himself turned on by at least two old heads who hammered home some tough criticism of his methods, especially his man-management. He was told they were sick of his constant criticism, especially in public. Players were particularly upset to have their effort, professionalism and commitment questioned by their manager. The brutal exchange and vocal dissent proved to be the last straw in Di Canio’s controversial reign at the Stadium of Light. Roberto Di Matteo is among the early contenders to succeed him. Your time is up: Sunderland now begin the hunt for a replacement Action Images Di Canio admitted he feared the worst on Saturday night after winning just one point in five league games. A bizarre showdown with Sunderland fans on the pitch at West Brom on Saturday saw the Italian telling them to keep their chins up, but he faced a barrage of abuse. Di Canio now fears he is finished as a top-flight manager, admitting the gamble Sunderland took on his slim credentials might be his only crack at a top job. Sunderland face Liverpool and Manchester United next in the league, leaving little hope of a revival ahead whoever is in charge. Di Canio, who was allowed to bring in 14 new players in the summer, said after the West Brom defeat: “The team, not intentionally, have not gelled. It is obvious one day if we keep going lose, lose, lose there will be natural consequences, not only for Paolo di Canio. “I don’t think they will want to keep Paolo di Canio, they will probably want to change.” Sunderland said in a statement last night: “Kevin Ball will take charge of the squad ahead of Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup game against Peterborough United and an announcement will be made in due course regarding a permanent successor.” Were Sunderland right to sack Paolo Di Canio so soon? Alan Brazil (I know he's a twat but he's a well connected twat) Said two weeks ago all the noise from the Sunderland dressing room was negative towards PDC. In hindsight today was inevitable.
Looks like its the senior players and I'd be guessing 2 from JOS, Larsson, Gardner, Bardsley, Catts and maybe AJ. I know some of them have been trotted recently out to tell the world all is well but its obvious it wasn't now. Once you lose senior players in the dressing room it is absolutely inevitable you cant change another 14 players so the manager has to go.
Players were upset to have their professionalism etc called out! ****ing ****ers. They are bottom of the league, prove him wrong ya bunch of gutless ****s.
Really cest? Now you're casting aspersions over which players the bust up is with? A senior player could be any of the first team squad as they're all senior players. Christ we've only the daily mirror for proof there was a bust up. Maybe there was but come on mate. There's a seriously a lack of class in what you do and you can't seem to help yourself.
I'm only speculating on newspaper reports ( several reports tbh) of senior players? I'm not saying they were the ones just a guess? You're being far to picky with my posts on this.
Sorry mate. It's all such a mess. Just being a bit over defensive regarding negative speculation. Just feel absolutely trodden down by the media and constant falsities around our club not to mention the influx of visiting posters talking out of their arse.
So the pussies that were on the pitch are whining like little girls because they have been called out on being pussies. I'd sack the ****ers, not the manager. Bunch of soft ****ers.
If that were you having your professionalism questioned by your Gaffer you would want to say something. I think tactics etc were all wrong and the players knew but still tried to get on board and then after PDC said they had rubbish in their heads they though balls to this we can't take him no more. I'd of loved for it to work with PDC but we have to look forward now, no ifs or buts. What's done is done.
Nee bother Bri. We are all going through the washer at the minute. We need a non controversial appointment and a calming figure to galvanise the dressing room, the media and the fans now. Di Matteo fits that bill for me and would bring an air of calm to proceedings. I think most fans are ready to throw their support behind someone like him and give the fella 2 years minimum to settle things down.
Yeah man, RDM, my first choice anyway. Thank **** he's still available, let get him, no nasty surprises like Steve McClaren.
Probably along the right lines Cest, the inference says "old heads" which suggests one of your leader-type figures such as O'Shea, Cuellar, Vaughan maybe Cattermole although isn't he still a young lad? Maybe they mean it in a 'he's been there for a long time sort of way. I think you'll hear this kind of paper talk for some time to come, it's inevitable that drips of information will leak from players to the media one way or another but I doubt the players will be allowed to publicly hang PDC out to dry on twitter and so on, it just doesn't make your club look good and I think your PR will make sure already that the players remain pro. Enough time from me on this now, back to sulking.
Cest, can you tell me whats changed your mind on Di matteo because when ONeil was sacked and he was menioned then you totally slated the guy. What's he done since then that has changed your view on him ? Me, personally I don't think he is the man for the job but to be honest I don't know who is
"If that were you having your professionalism questioned by your Gaffer you would want to say something." - if you were bottom of the league, unable to pass the ball to a team mate and still earning thousands of pounds a week I would keep my head down. The players have just as many questions to answer as Short, biggest u turn and act of cowardice in the face of adversity as I can remember...does Short have French ancestry?
I have it on good authority from a colleague that works in the EPL who has close contacts at Sunderland, that Vaughan was the player that fronted a players delegation after the WBA fixture. The beef, it would seem was the public slating of the players by PDC and discontent at his ability to cut a player loose at the first sign of crossed words. Apparently following a minor disagreement, Mr Cabral was basically ostracised and isolated on the training ground, a move which, by all accounts caused some upset among the first team squad. My colleague also alluded to a bust up between PDC and Ji which apparently got out of hand too. All in all, it would seem PDC did have an issue with his man management skills.
Would this be the same Vaughan that has played **** all season? Would this be the same Ji who has been **** all season and most of last? The Cabral one has us all stumped though mate. This public slating of players is strange as well as I can only recall O'Shea getting a slating maybe Ji and, both for obvious reasons.
To be honest Talc I was a bit surprised to hear it myself. I personally always though Vaughan was a quiet fella, but my colleague is quite adamant.
Thought the same mate to be fair but, how the hell can two of our worst players be having a go at the manger.
