Typical just watched the race again and Alonso goes off track to gain an illegal 3rd place at the start and Massa forces Lewis off track... Seems Ferrari drivers are under a different set of rules to the rest
When I watched the start I wondered why Sutil was allowed to get away with cutting the entire first corner...
Does he? I thought so at first but reality it was just very good placement from Alonso Can't find a Massa/Hamilton vid tho.
Only ever two wheels off the track so no issues there. Ferrari really have got their launch control spot on!
I think it would have been pretty harsh to punish something so borderline, especially when you could argue not all the tyres were across the line. please log in to view this image
All thanks to the momentum he used before and the rest slowing down properly, it's like Vettel and Button Australia 2011. He could of slowed down and made the corner properly like Webber and Grosjean, but he knew Grosjean would of been beside him so he carried that momentum anyway and cut the corner just so he could get behind the action for 1st. I'm not surprised anymore the FIA will do anything to keep Alonso in the fight now, they did it last year when the car was classified unfit for racing because it failed the medical evaluation of safety and yet allowed them to continue using an actual illegal car for the championship...
Given the shape of the corner, I'd say his left front is on the kerb at the same time his left rear is still within the confines of the track, and even then I'd say it's debatable that his left front isn't touching the white line by a millimeter or two.
