The lad seems to be going backwards here and it is starting to worry me big time.
Is it a confidence thing do you think or was he basically over hyped?
Also.... would you want Simmo or MD right now... on current form?

Just a thought... could it be a settling into the area issue?

A couple of guys in front of me at the game yesterday were saying they'd rather have Simmo back than what we've got.

Aye, same with me to be fair. There's an old saying 'you don't know what you've got till you lose it'.
I really want MD to do well as he seems a lovely bloke but right now I'd honestly pick Simmo ahead of him.

On the field shouldn't be an issue, it's his job and what he gets big bucks for doing.

If a tradesman goes away to work, he doesn't forget how to use his tools, he just gets on with it.

I would hope the high £ he will be getting could overcome that kind of issue.
    Only time will tell.

I never wanted Simmo to go, same with Perch. Never thought I would say that but both did well getting fans on their side.

Saw Perchy playing against us for Nottingham down at their place shortly before he came up here and he had a blinder.

Good thing about Perch he was willing to play either back four or midfield, good utility player.
He even stopped getting booked <laugh> Pity he went to Wigan <grr>

He always seemed to give 100% and never shirked responsibility. I miss the lad TBH.

The problem I see with MD is that he has very little cover in HBA. This was targeted yesterday, and it would have been worse if Anita hadn't of covered for him as much as he did. Unfortunately, that affected Anita's effectiveness in the midfield. As a blind optimist, I think they will work it out.

Simmo would get crazy levels of derision and abuse on this forum, that was very rarely justified.

He's a far more solid, honest, strong and intelligent defender than Debuchy has shown even once in a United shirt, it would be a no-brainer to pick him instead.

But we let him leave... For QPR...

As I said all along with Simmo he was good at his primary role, defending. Debuchy it appears is not. However I'm hoping he improves with time. I was obviously never that keen on Debuchy and preferred we signed a left back to move Santon over. However I have to say I have been shocked by just how poor Debuchy is.

I think both of our full-backs are liabilities who have no tactical awareness. The amount of goals we concede when the ball is played inside them is crazy. Santon would be better off employed as a winger anyway, when he learns how to cross a ball.

It's not the first time Pardew has replaced someone and it hasn't worked out.

Routledge being replaced by Obertan is a bad joke.

Simpson looked ok to me and I saw the recruitment of Debuchy as more about keeping Cabaye happy than repairing a problem position. <ok>

I think Joker has made a salient point, i.e. When he talks about Cabaye being happy. I am not talking in terms of this best mates thing or bromance type scenarios, but it seems to me that MD plays well when,

    Cabaye is in the team
Cabaye is in the right frame of mind
    Cabaye is playing well

They do look for each other on the pitch and find passes to one another. Sadly Cabaye is inconsistent, gives up too easily, has a nasty little streak in him and will pay the price disciplinary wise, is clearly prone to mood swings. The whole Arsenal saga did not help, and personally l feel that until Cabaye gets his head in the right place, if ever, then MD will continue to struggle to be at his best. Starting to think that the euphoria over both signings, myself included, was perhaps misguided and neither are really cut out for the premiership or the north east.
