We also have to factor in that teams will set up defensively against us, so at times it will be hard not conceding is the bedrock for me. We can only get better as new players settle in and get fitter

This is a very valid point. Yesterday, Yeovil played the game like a cup final. We are there to be shot at by everyone else because: a) we are top and b) we are rich. They will all raise their game against us.

I think it will go one of 2 ways.

Harry might be lucky and get in a decent forward.... can't see who though !

If he got someone like Defoe (no chance) then with the good start we could really do well and I would be confident.

If he doesn't get somebody decent... then I think we might get found out when we start to play some of the other top 8 teams...... that we have yet to play. If we go 1-0 down it will be difficult. I know Austin scored a few before but he looks pretty average to me.

At 6/4 (today) to win the league I would be more of a layer than a backer.

Winning the next 2 home games could give us a cushion in case no forward is signed. Hope Johnson returns VERY soon !

    just my 2p worth

I think Austin looks a proper centre forward. Just needs to get scoring more. He's not a problem imo.

Absolutely, I've been very impressed with his all round play., especially because he's been all by himself for the last three games, almost no midfielders attempting to run past him. He'll be fine once we get the shape going forward right.

We have a striker who can score but we have difficulty supplying him with the chances with our set-up at present. It'll be interesting to see our shape when Kranjcar starts and how he'll be used...

We have a very solid defence at the moment - in fact Simpson has been one of the most impressive at trying to support Austin with his forays down the right. Austin has done a remarkable job on his own the last few games.
Have to be happy with a 3pt gap (still unhappy we didn't dispatch Brighton though and have a 5pt gap).
As pointed out we have much better teams to play yet, so need to get our midfield sorted to push forward and make more of ourselves. It'll come, I'm sure. But, all in all, a great start without playing well (all built on our solid defensive 5!

everyone is missing the point about gingers, watch the south park episode on gingers.

In a class presentation, Cartman delivers his piece that is somewhat considered a hate speech, arguing that "Gingers"—people with red hair, freckles, and pale skin—are disgusting, inhuman, unable to survive in sunlight, and have no souls; all because of a condition called "Gingervitis".

I am Super positive about our start but firmly believe that we need to start playing better football going forward. Holiett is key for me and Henry stops most things from happening before many on here can see them!. Green played well on Sat it seems ... I take the madness view that when Henry plays he stops more moves developing into shoots that need not get saved in the first place ... a bit like the Matrix but on acid

    That was a brilliant episode.

I don't think this forum is overrun with South Park fans.

New series starts in a couple of weeks. :)

Personally, I'm particularly pleased that Austin has started scoring. Even a well taken penalty will boost his confidence.

I forget not everyone watches it and may have put my foot in my mouth. I'm watching the DVDs to get me in the mood for next year. I post lots of random SP references and think you might be the only one who will get them.
Austin was on the verge of a red card, he was very frustrated by the tactics of hoofing the ball to his head and no one within 30 yards of him.

I'm delighted with 20 points from 8 games much better than had hoped for & baring in mind the squad changes over the summer is pretty impressive.

If we went through the rest of the season in the same fashion by winning ugly or by riding our luck as some put it then I'd still be delighted as the end result & aim is Premiership football next season.

Like most R's fans there's a pessimist fighting to get out as so use to all the knock backs over the years.

20 points from 8 games is more than we could have hoped for
having said that I hope we start to score more than 1 goal per game
is it true we had no shots on target against the mighty yoevil
if the opposition had managed to score against us where would we be in the league with 8 points
not a lot of difference between us having 20 or 8 points really is there

that's probably why some on here are slightly worried

off now to see where we would be on 8 points
