Carlton Cole and Leon Best top Harry Redknapp's wanted striker list at QPR

The Rs boss has been on the look out for more fire power over the last couple of weeks - and is set to sign more this week

Interest: Carlton Cole could be signed by Redknapp Interest: Carlton Cole could be signed by Redknapp

Harry Redknapp is aiming to tie up a loan deal for a striker this week – with Carlton Cole and Leon Best on his hit-list, writes Steve Bates of the Sunday People.

The QPR boss wants an experienced striker having lost both Bobby Zamora and Andy Jonson to injury.

Redknapp, desperate to take Rangers back up at the first time of asking, is keen on a move for former England striker Cole, released by West Ham in the summer.

He has also checked on Blackburn ace Best as he searches for a striker to keep QPR’s momentum going.

Two strikers that are OK in a team but can't actually strike.

Not enough goals in either of them and I'd prefer one of the kids that has a knack for goals at U18 level or younger if I'm honest.

Not overly enthused by either. Cole might be worth a short-term deal but Best is past his, er, best...

Not enthused over either of these. Best coming off an ACL injury and Cole unfit and not exactly prolific in games or goals either.
Can't argue that our own youngsters would be better placed to contribute more to performance and their development.

If the reports on Cole being over weight and unfit are true ................ there in lies the problem and we should pass on him.
Get some young guns who have a bit of fire in the belly and something to prove.

Its a big IF,but if they can proe fitness then worth a punt on short deals. Prefer Best over Cole. Ok,hes been injured, but Best scored quite a few goals not that long ago and some very good goals too?. Got to be better than when he was last with us(even if it was for 3 games!)

Can't do links, but according to Sporting Life
'Cole has returned to training with West Ham in an effort to earn fresh terms, and Sam Allerdyce has admitted to being keen on getting the powerful frontman back on board'.

Seems like another target avoids our scoring intentions again..

Thought shariff would be a decent addition, saw him play for Woking a season back and his game has improved vastly

Neither are prolific scorers, and that is exactly why we need to steer clear. We need goals, not strikers who will only work hard for the team.

Both have enough time to be able to judge their scoring records, and neither are great, and that wont change now.

Does Harry not rate our youth players at all? He brought plenty through at West Ham but seems unwilling to give any of our youngsters a go. Hitchcock and Shariff not even making the bench yesterday spoke volumes. If they are anyway decent what message does bringing in an overweight or unfit striker in as cover send them.

How many 'prolific' scorers are available in the loan window though? If any player is in the prolific category then they're gonna be used in their current team. Unfortunately it'll be the type of players named above that will be available and easier to get. Or do we risk trying to throw 'some' money at an unwanted bad influence like adebayor? He'll get us some goals but will he cause unrest? I've heard in many places that Harry Kane is a main target. Maybe this is only because he's a Spurs player, a forward, and has been on loan to 4 teams. (played 57 goals 14). He's only 20 but he's 6ft 2 and seems to be similar to Austin. We need a smaller type with pace who can give us another option.

It is a good point, the best strikers wont be available now, which begs the question, why did HR go with AJ and BZ knowing full well of their injury history. It has left us with this problem, just three weeks since the window closed. Both AJ and BZ didnt even last a month.

I have said it before, I would like to see us go for Billy Sharp (hasnt gone to Reading yet), he is available and has a good scoring record.

    agree,

But with pace from SWP, BAE, Phillips, and Carrol, I would be happy with another big target forward

On the Football League show they featured Brit Assombalonga the latest goal scoring machine to role off the Peterborough production machine. Might be worth a look.
