Despite all the rumours in the press I believe we will retain most of the core members of our squad for the new season. When you you look at our main opposition Spurs could be better placed than most.

    Man U:
You would have to expect SAF to improve the squad and the ageing core of their team has seen their best days. His need for more than just one player will lead him to look outside the PL for replacements.

    Man C:
Despite some progress last season they are far from a settled side and an unhappy Tevez does not bode well for short term development.

    Liverpool:
Despite their improvement under Dalgliesh they have someway to go, as highlighted by the defeat to Spurs at the end of the season.

Chelsea: New Manager, with the problem of making a new team around the doubtful form of Torres with ageing stars past their best.

    Arsenal:
Wenger likes to build his teams around young players and mould them to his way of playing. Right now IMO he needs to add experience and steel. His track record in this area is not so strong.

    Spurs:
If Levy manages to hang on to the current squad and bring in 1 or 2 top players we should improve on last season. Sandro & Kaboul settling in will provide more steel to the flair already there in abundance. Last season for me was one of transition mainly because of the introduction of VDV. This next one should be consolidation.

An exciting new season is on the horizon.

    Totally agree <ok>

I would also like to add Martin Jol being back in the PL, love the guy, his accent makes me go week at the knees <smooch>

You seen the bookies odds? Liverpool at 10/1 to win the league <laugh>

I remember something similar last season...when they signed the new Messi in Joe Cole <doh>

Lets get the right players in, and the right players out, *cough* Crouch <ok>

I totally agree. We just need to build on the current crop and seriously get rid of Crouch. With the players we have right now we are so much more dangerous playing through teams as we do when Crouch is not on the pitch. For an 8ft player he cannot head the ball. He is ok with his feet but does not really know how to hold players off as he's too weak.
I have my fingers crossed everyday that Levy doesn't just come out and say that Modders has been sold as we need the income. I think if he lets them go this season there will be an uproar. We have to keep hold of the key players, show them that we're seriously pushing for that CL spot and also challenging for the title.
    Crouch and Jenas out
    NO to Joe Cole, Diarra
    Marque Striker x2 please

Good to see Harry add fuel to the optimism.

I'll be optomistic about next season as soon as the transfer window slams shut and we've keepen our star players, gotten rid of the deadwood and made some good new signings.
Currently, though, with SAF always breathing down our best players' necks and with Chelsea and City's seemingly unlimited funds I'm not looking forward to the next couple of months.

So, heres to a SUPERIOR transfer window. <cheers>

Another very good reason to be cheerful is watching Comolli spunk another clubs' money up the wall. Nobody else in football would think £55m for Andy Carroll and Jordan Henderson represented a good investment...

I think that it's hard to knock Comolli's signings for Spurs, to be honest.
He does spend quite big money, but he gets in players that are generally very good and pretty young.
Dalglish will be immune to any attempt to dislodge him too, so it's probably a good combination, especially if the manager actually has the last say on signings.

If Liverpool can bring in the likes of Henderson, Jones, Downing and Cattermole and get rid of a lot of their deadwood, then they'll be a very dangerous team next season.
Selling Konchesky, Aurelio, Cole, Jovanovic, Poulsen, Aquilani and Degen would free up a fair bit of their wage bill, too.

I've said all along that we'll hold onto all our stars. Am I genius for guessing right? No. I merely looked at the facts, which are:-

    (a) Harry has consistently said, from day one in the job, that he will keep his best players, move on those who are not up to the job, and buy players that we are lacking.

    (b) New contracts have recently been taken up by the likes of Bale, Modric, Dawson, Lennon, and VDV is a recently signing.

    (c) Levy has never willingly let our best young players go.

    (d) We are constantly trying to do deals for the type of player that would improve our squad.

    (e) Crucially, those players at the centre of recent speculation have each come out and said they are staying at Spurs.

    See. It's not rocket science.

Just a quickie about Crouch, can any one remember any time he has had a shot of any power and conviction rather than a leggy weak stab and then the standard rub face with both hands, a wry smile and thinks "god that close"

Taarabt, KPB, Gilberto, Rocha, Bentley, paying way over the odds for Bent when we didn't need/want/have to sign him - it's telling that Levy went over his head to brought in Modric, and whilst Bale is a quality player it isn't as if he was an unknown quantity that only we spotted.

Comolli is useless at negotiation, and the selling club knows this so jack up the price knowing he doesn't have the nous to convince them otherwise.
