Cattermole looks to be staying on Wearside after Sunderland reject loan bid from Forest Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...st-loan-bid-Lee-Cattermole.html#ixzz2fItQymAr
I foresee a complete love affair between Paolo and Catts. I thought when Di Canio first came that as soon as Catts was fit he'd be his first name on.the timesheet. His on field general, leading his men into battle. Love him or loathe him, Cattermole could save our season.
When was the last time Catts kicked a ball? Don't pin all your hopes on him fella. Could take half a season for him to get up to speed.
I've watched Catts loads of times and looked at a large percentage of his bookings and copmpared them with stuff others have done in the same game which is as bad or worse and they get no punishment - look at Tiote in the derby where Catts got sent off for swearing at the ref after the game - Tiote committed 5 fouls before he was booked - 3 of them as bad or worse than Cattermole's yellow in the same game. Same against West Ham - he got booked for winning the ball cleanly with no contact on a player - whereas the west ham right back went over the top of the ball 2 footed on Richardson and fot the same punishment - The ONLY way to stop Cattermole getting booked is to change his name and appearance - I agree at times he's been an idiot to get himself booked/sent off but at other times he has simply been booked for being "Lee Cattermole"
Totally agree. Are we surprised anymore at inept officiating? Cabaye is the worst in the premier league for it, every time I watch him he gets away with 3 or 4 clear yellows before the ref brandishes a card.
Former Sunderland captain Lee Cattermole could feature for them against West Bromwich Albion this weekend, Paolo Di Canio has confirmed. Di Canio had not hidden the fact that former Middlesbrough star Cattermole was not in his long-term plans. But after confirming last week that he would be given the chance to stake a claim for a first-team spot, the 25-year-old is now back in contention for the Premier League match at The Hawthorns on Saturday. "Is it too soon to travel with the squad to West Brom? No," Di Canio told the Sunderland Echo. "He will come with us and when I take the players with me to travel to the game, they go under the assumption that any one of them can play straight away. "They might play from the start, or they might come on as a substitute, but if you travel you have a chance of playing, and he will be in the squad. "I will make a final decision on the first team on Friday." Chance Mainly due to injury Cattermole has not played since February for Sunderland, but Di Canio is ready to use him after their poor start to the season - which sees them sitting bottom of the table after four games. "We all know what might have happened with Lee during the transfer window and that's why he wasn't really included in our plans," said Di Canio. "But, at the end of the day, when he doesn't move, you don't just stick him in a corner and say he's not our player. "It's important you use the squad available to you if you can and to be fair to him, he has shown character. "I am not prejudiced in this respect. "It was the same with Wes Brown - he's a fine centre-half who I wanted to move on from, but he was absolutely determined to prove me wrong and he came back in pre-season to really impress me and was on the bench last week. "Lee has shown real desire too. He hasn't just come back in to suffer, he has embraced it enthusiastically and that is important. "If you are intelligent and you buy into it, you have a chance and now Lee has a chance." Meanwhile, Di Canio has also confirmed that Italy international Emanuele Giaccherini is also back in the squad following a hamstring problem - but he is far from certain to be selected ahead of Greek Charis Mavrias. "Giaccherini is fit and at the moment it's not a question (whether he'll come back in). He needs to play but we know with Mavrias, he's played one game and he can come off the bench and do well, and then we have Tuesday," he saod. "We have to be sensible because in this area we have two very good players and I'm happy for that."
Hats of to Catts for knuckling down, getting over his injury, proving his fitness and impressing Paolo to force his way into his plans. This is the player with heart that we know. It's all good. Out of interest. Where are the Catts bashers who were out in force in the summer when they thought he was being sold? Even though he was injured? All comments have been complimentary of him lately.
More than anything PDC needs to get a settled side as quickly as possible. Far to much chopping and changing. Vaughan is weak, Cabral out of favour, Larsson out of his depth. If that has Catts in the side then so be it, but he needs to have settled down a bit, improved a bit and got rid of his injuries. I suspect at least 2 of the 3 wont/can't happen.
not too bad a statement for a man who is out of his depth, it once again explains to those who think they are better than him sitting in their armchairs at home, i wonder if he gets them all smoking to improve the fitness in the squad
