The case to sell Hendo and yes I know its all gossip and yes I know we all have differing views about Hendo and the names being bandied about but lets just look at the principle, use the names as a guide.

Today’s gossip is sell Hendo to Liverpool for 20 mil and bring in Welbeck, Gibson and Brown from Man U.

    This would..

    1. Let Henderson improve his career and income by moving him to a bigger club and yes Liverpool are a bigger club. Surely that’s the right thing to do for Hendo.

    2. Get a fantastic price for the lad that can only benefit Sunderland if spent properly.

    3. Using the 3 names mentioned but remembering it does not need to be those 3 it would bring in an experienced premier defender who at the very worst would give excellent back up. A good young midfielder who in many eyes is as good as Hendo at this stage and a striker we know is good and who works well with Gyan.

Now to me that seems a win win situation all round and the keep and build around him argument, build around the lad who just about everyone was calling to be dropped a few weeks ago.

Emotions have been running pretty high on both sides over the past few days as to should he stay or should he go. Syd, wisdom is your middle name. I’ve always said club first, which is why I find myself in support of your comments. I don’t want him to go but if it means enhancing his career opportunities & as a result Sunderland have a chance of becoming stronger for it, then lets all thank him & wish him all the very best for the future.

Got to agree with you Syd. We should always be aiming to improve and if selling Henderson allows us to bring in quality players to strengthen the squad and make us better it has to be the way forward. 20 mill or thereabout for Hendo to bring in three quality players whoever they maybe then the money from the Bent sale to bring in more quality and thats before we even touch this years budget. The down side is if Hendo goes to Livepool it could scupper deals with Man U but it still looks positive to me.

    Morning Cyprus,

This would be a very good situation for our club and I believe all Sunderland fans would wish Henderson well and hope that he becomes a quality premiership player with England credentials that we all believe he can be.

Obviously like you say we should not stand in his way if he feels he will progress under Liverpool and I think he will so now it seems we just need to get the best deal for our club and the deal you have above would benefit us greatley.

Either way every Sunderland fan will back Jordan Henderson in whatever decision he makes.

The only worry I have is anyone else leaving the club because we are already quote Bruce, "needing 8 players" so this would make it 9 and I worry about our squad gelling next season as there is no garantee it will work.

The key is obviously who we bring in but the gossip about 3 from Man U means at least we get 3 who know each other. If we take emotions out, Sunderland born lad, future star then we have to admit that the three areas of the team, defence, midfield and attack all let us down last season. I dont think we need major surgery because we have Turner, Bramble, Bardsley and Ferdy in defence a good base that just needs 2 signings IMO.

Midfield we have Elmo, Sess, Catts, Meyler, Richardson, Steed,Colback, again a good base but needs that bit of flair and above all to me a midfield general.

Attack is our big problem but Bruce and Quinn have said that, 24 from Bent, 20 from Hendo, ??? from short, surely even Sunderland can solve the problems with that.

    Morning all
Agree with the comments above it would be win win for everyone however a couple of things
    1. I think Bruce is on holiday ? and i cant see any major deals being concluded in his absence
    2. bruce quoted as saying he needs 8 players ? i dont know but maybe he had already resigned himself to losing hendo and therefore is still only 8 players
    3. and this is the major one lets forget all this speculation and paper talk and wait to see who leaves and who we sign.

all that said the crack is good and exciting

I agree about waiting mate, said the same myself on an earlier article but I think the Hendo thing is now at the stage were it will be a major surprise if he stays.

Key thing for me is to judge Bruce and his dealings at the close of the window, not the begining

I am in the camp of 'keep Henderson', he is a great young talent and can only get better, But if the rumours are true and Liverpool are offering £20m, well, it would be rude to turn that down.
Also if we can get Welbeck on a permanent signing, I will be very pleased, I do also like the look of Gibson and we all know what Brown has to offer.
I would also like to see some of the money speant on young Wickham from Ipswich.
Good deal if it all comes off.

One thing to think is that us mere mortal supporters would view playing for our club (Sunderland) as effectively an extra 10-15k a week if we were in that position - is Henderson the same? He loves the club so maybe this is the thing that ties him to us and means that extra 10k isn't as important - but then again he's a footballer and has an agent in his ear constantly so maybe this will make him leave...

I think we are at the stage now where Welbeck on another loan is not beneficial for our club, its either permanent or no deal and I think Bruce knows this.

Loans are only beneficial if we are seriously short due to injury or taking a look at a player with a view to buy and a deal in place but no more loans.

I also like Gibson as he is young (23) and Brown could be a good squad player but we need a left back! But as everyone says Bruce is baking like a strip of bacon on some beach somewhere so nothing will get done for a few weeks I would suspect although Henderson being sold will still happen regardless of Bruce on Holiday.

Steve Bruce is entitled to a holiday just like any employee and if Hendo is to be sold it will be done by the chief executive of the club. That's who handles transfers

I really like Henderson & think he is going to be a brilliant player. His crossing & corners though need some work, i think if Liverpool want to give us a fee in the region of 18.5 million then this is too good to turn down. the major point though is that we need to bring in people who can do a job not utility players, we really do need to press on this summer with the Financial Fair Play Rules coming into effect soon & we could see ourselves overtaken if we don't spend now

£20m for Henderson is great business for the club, I will be gutted if he leaves as he could of gone on to be a true legend here but money talks. If he does go then it will be completely different to the Bent situation, there shouldn't be any bitterness or hatred toward the lad.

The main problem with Henderson is his agent. At the start of the year he moved to the same agents as DB's and i think we all feared that he would be away sooner or later, and i think a lot of people expressed there concerns when this was made public knowelage and you have to wonder if again they have played a major part in unsetteling Henderson just like the DB deal in the winter.

What we can all hope for is that Sir Nail and Steve Walton play hard ball and hold out for the clubs evaluation of Henderson , and never mind instalment **** they pay the £20mill up front and more with add on's on apperances etc (ideal)

£20m is only a good deal if we have viable replacements lined up. Bent going for £24m seemed to good to be turned down, but what's the point of having all this money if we don't have quality players to spend it on. I'd like to hear us being linked (strongly, not in a gossip column, but by a Bruce, Quinn or the player themselves) to a top class replacement before we even think about selling.

What came to my mind is that if we want £20m for Henderson then DaveWhelen at Wigan should laugh off any figure lower than that for N'Zogbia, he's better than Henderson in every singe way. Henderson is a decent player and a good prospect but paying for pure ability only id rate him in the £8m range, this only gets inflated due to his age and the fact he's English. I've said it before, there's a better player who would slot straight in and he's free, Mr Seb Larsson.

10,000 a week maybe but a annual salary rise of 3mil, I think I could be tempted.

Bruce on holiday is irelivent, mobiles, internet so he will know whats going on.

This says it all. Though Bruce is supposedly on holiday, I'd still expect Quinn or Walton to release something. Short... Not so much. He's no Gold/Sullivan.
