THE FOXES 1884 That was the first game I ever went to! Seen some great games over the years, 5-1 win in the play offs against Cambridge springs to mind. Even the Play off final defeat to Swindon - what a great game that was!
Have a look at the Brian little thread I put up earlier today - both games are highlighted and Brian even suggests that the Cambridge game was his proudest moment - even eclipsing his playing days - praise indeed.
For pure drama and emotion (even though we lost) the play off final v Swindon takes some beating. When Steve Thompson put that goal in to make it 2-2 it was pure mayhem in the stands! I remember hugging so big guy I didnt know...no it wasnt jobber!
danny cadamarteri last minute equaliser v fulham!! on tv though, a game where de vries got a hat trick in a 4-3 win over spurs i think?
Back in the Boothferry Park days we beat Sheffield United 4-1 in the old Division 3 (1982/83 season I think - or it could have been the following season). Anyway it was 1-1 with 10 minutes left until 2 goals from Brian Marwood and a brilliant solo goal from Les Mutrie sent the South Stand into 10 minutes (+ added time) of jumping up and down delirium. Definitely my favorite game from BP days - and there are so many from the KC that I will have to think for a while and get back to you
One of our best ever aways was actually a loss. Sheff United 3-2 Hull City. Sheff United had already been promoted to the Premier League, Paddy Kenny was an utter ****, but it was a great game of football. Though not quite as good as the Nick Barmby show, 4-2 away win against the Wendies.
If you can include defeats, I'll go for 4-3 away at Newcastle in 1997. They led fairly comfortably for the first 45 mins, then in the second half, we took a 3-1 lead from nowhere. Then Alan Shearer scored an blooding hat trick in the last quarter of an hour. Shearers free kick was one of those goals that was always shown in montages and adverts. I'll also put the Arsenal away 2-1 defeat in there. Lost 2-1 against them, on the last day of their 'invincibles' season. We took the lead and really had them sweating.
Best Leicester game imo was that Arsenal 3-3 game. Best hat-trick i've ever seen by Bergkamp. Best 'ull one for me had to be either the Barmby show vs Wednesday or Wembley, just due to what it meant. How about international matches? For me the best one I ever saw was either Yugoslavia 3-4 Spain at Euro 2000, possibly the most end-to-end match I have ever witnessed, or Netherlands 2-3 Czech Republic at Euro 2004. Czechs coming from 2-0 down to break the Dutch with their fantastic side of Nedved, Poborsky, Baros and Koller.
We were already down in that match so I remember not caring too much. I also knew they'd bloody end up winning. There was another match at Arsenal when we lead most of the match only to lose 2-1. I think Cottee scored but I may be wrong. Arsenal always did things like that against us. That's why I enjoyed knocking them out of the cup in '99 so much.
That Spain game was fantastic. I also always remember a South Korea v Spain match from '94 I think. Back then Spain were fancied and Korea usually got hammered all the time. It finished 2-2. Wasn't that Holland v Czech game really dirty?
Someone was sent off for the Dutch, but it wasn't an incredibly dirty game if I recall. I was in Portugal at the time as well, I went with the old man to see England's group games. That Croatia game was brilliant as well, possibly the last time England had a decent tournament team.
Have to agree with the Shrewsbury game for drama and unbelievable things happening throughout the game. But for me the best game was against Liverpool at Filbo, when Andy Peake scored his 35 yard screamer after dancing his way through the Liverpool midfield, only for their defence to open up for him and invite the shot, which bent away from Ray Clemence, beating him all ends up. We then went on to win the game 2-1 and became the only team to do the double over them that year, I think it was 1980 or 1981. I was with my dad in the Double Decker and right behind Peake when he scored at the other end. I didn't get to Wembley for the Swindon game, I was in the RAF and on duty that weekend, but I recorded it and nearly turned it off at half-time, couldn't bear to watch the rest, glad I did though even though we lost
Really going to show my age now - used to play against Andy Peake at school - he was at Market Harborough as I recall with another lad, Kevin Farmer, who also was on City's books as a striker... we'd still beat them mind!
