Leroy Griffiths Update - Possibly of more interest now his link to Brix has been revealed.

Former QPR striker Leroy Griffiths has parted company with Harrow Borough after just nine games.

Borough manager Dave Anderson confirmed that Griffiths had left the Ryman League Premier Division club by mutual consent, barely two months since he signed from Sutton United.

The 37-year-old failed to score in a competitive game during his time at Earlsmead – although his departure was not related to his performance on the pitch, but for personal reasons.

“To be fair to Leroy, he was struggling with his travel,” said Borough boss Anderson. “So it didn’t work out how we thought it would and we thought it was better to just shake hands.”

Harrow became Griffiths’ 16th club in a long and varied career and Anderson fully expects him to continue playing. In the meantime, he is focused on finding a replacement ahead of Saturday’s trip to Premier Division table-toppers Maidstone.

“I think he’s going to look for something closer to home because of his familycommitments, and I wish him well with that as he’s a great lad,” said the manager.

“I’m working to bring in a few players during the week. I’m hoping to add two to three players to the squad before the trip to Maidstone.”

Griffiths had been a long-term target for Anderson, ever since the Borough manager’s days as AFC Wimbledon boss, following the striker’s decisive double in a 2-1 win over the Dons for Fisher Athletic in a Ryman League Premier Division play-off in 2006.

However, Anderson is now focused on Saturday’s match and hoping that the results begin to match his side’s committed performances this season.

“It’ll be a big game and there’ll be a big crowd and atmosphere and if you don’t want to play in games like that then you shouldn’t be playing the game,” he said.

“We’re going there very much as underdogs. They’ll have to deal with the big crowd and the big expectation and I did all that at Wimbledon, so I’m aware of what they’re going through.

“If we perform like we can, it’ll be a good game. How will we react to the big crowd and the atmosphere? I don’t know, as this side hasn’t been tested under those conditions.”

Having picked up only two league victories this season, against Leiston and Dulwich Hamlet, Harrow are currently four points off the foot of the table in 20th – but Anderson remains optimistic about his side’s chances this season.

“I feel we’re underachieving for how we’ve played in some games,” he said. “I would have hoped to have had more points for the way we’ve played, and our draw on Saturday against North Greenford [in the FA Cup] was poor.

“After nine or 10 games I would say altogether I’m delighted with how it’s been. It’s not as bad as some people may perceive, but I just feel that we should have more points for the way we’ve played.

“We’ve got to get more clinical and become more consistent in our performance and in our results.”

Did Pat say that she saw him on the tube recently, or was that also when you saw him last?

If I remember correctly you said he had a very powerful shot.

Definitely one of Brix's favourites (when he had his right head on) but his ego / wrong prioritisation of friends meant the full potential was wasted. Many would agree with your verdict though.

Brix used to manage a team that Leroy played in (along side Deon I think).

See point 20 from the Brixton R Day - 14.09.13 thread

    (20) David managed a number of successful five-aside football teams as a leisure activity. He wrote to both QPR and Crystal Palace requesting a break for one of his 'young' charges and despite getting no response found that a season or so later (in 2001), the player, Leroy Griffiths, had been signed for the Rs - if you'd seen the smile on his face then.

Deon may be able to give you more info

Leroy played with me in a Clapham-based five-a-side team managed by Brix. Whilst it was a small, fun, community-based team Leroy played with us as we all knew him from the area. I can safely say that I've played with people who have gone on to fair levels of football, I have never come across a player with that speed, strength, eye for goal and a shot to match. Have you ever seen somebody break a five-a-side net (thicker than the most ain't they?) with a shot... I have - only one - that was Leroy. We jokingly used to advise him to warm up the opposition keeper...think you get my angle.

Yep - mum did see him fairly recently. She reprimanded him, one of her young charges, for not utilising the opportunity that he was graced with. He knows that had he made different choices he would have hit great heights. Shame.

Remember that goal leroy scored against Chelsea in a pre season friendly? We beat them 3-1. It was around the time of our re-birth. That's what I remember him for.

Nice to see you on here Deon, and I notice a certain Mrs Brix down the page!

Trying to get her to communicate too but she's as stubborn as Mr Brix sometimes...

Yep Woody, that goal against Chelsea was some goal. Turned Desailly (the World Cup & European Cup winning captain) inside out and then hit one from 20 yards into the top corner. Some goal - shame it was only one that comes to mind and in a friendly too! But despite this we never heard the end of it from him...
