Swansea midfielder Jonjo Shelvey sent a message of appreciation to Liverpool supporters after having a unique influence in his first match against the Reds since leaving Anfield during the summer. The England international put the Welsh side ahead with a calm finish within minutes of kick-off at the Liberty Stadium, but made mistakes which led to goals for Daniel Sturridge and Victor Moses. His final decisive contribution occurred midway through the second half, when his flicked header allowed Spanish striker Michu to direct a strike beyond Simon Mignolet and secure a 2-2 draw. "My emotions are a bit up and down, to be honest," the 21-year-old told Liverpoolfc.com post-match. "I gifted Liverpool the two goals; I started off so well, scoring, and then two minutes later gave Sturridge a sitter. "Then a rubbish pass which was cut out by Moses, who scored. But then luckily I flicked a header on and Michu scored. "It's difficult in there because it's not just Stevie, you've got Lucas and Coutinho, Sturridge dropping off and then Henderson coming in the hole as well. It was difficult. "But what an achievement to say you've played against Steven Gerrard and played with him." Shelvey spent three years with the Reds following his switch in 2010, making 69 appearances in Liverpool colours and chipping in with seven goals. The Londoner admitted that finding the target against his former side was an enjoyable experience but shared a number of sentiments regarding his time on Merseyside "There's no point lying about it - it's a good feeling. It's something that you can't really explain," he said of his opener. "I tried my best not to celebrate and I did apologise to the Liverpool fans. "I'm enjoying it down here, living down here; me and my missus have got a lovely house and a baby on the way. "It was a big thing to come away from Liverpool and a lot of things have been said in the media about the way I have gone about it. I just want to say I have never bad-mouthed Liverpool. "I'm grateful for what they have done for me; ever since I signed there, the fans were first-class and I'll always appreciate that." http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/145133-shelvey-s-message-to-lfc-supporters
Couldn't give a **** to be honest. He's no longer our player, he was on the opposition side last night. He seems like a decent enough guy but it's all hot air in the end.
He'll be an ok player in the end but can't see him being top 4. should play for england and might make the WC squad if he plays all year... no matter what he has done the right thing in moving. he could go to brazil and henderson might not. so whether he's ever goignt o go do anything else he's got europe this year, a medal in his pocket from us and a middling chance to go cos lets face it whilshire and a couple mroe are liekly to get injured and 38 games could put him in prime position in roys mind. then england have a scape goat....
Double Agent. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24120065 Jonjo Shelvey says sorry after Swansea City 2-2 Liverpool Swansea midfielder Jonjo Shelvey apologised to City supporters after his mistakes set up both Liverpool goals in the 2-2 draw at the Liberty Stadium. Shelvey put the Swans ahead against his former club, before his slack backpass allowed Daniel Sturridge to equalise.
Last night summed up shelvey for me. Capable of good things while at the same time always on the verge of a massive cock-up (or 2) Glad he's gone. Didn't think he was a Swansea type player but who knows. Thought he came back well from first half nightmare but if he had done it for us would have been slating him.
glad he has gone..????? I don't think so as liverpool's tried to persuade him to stay and fight for his place. He is only 21 and needs first team football and we can offer him that and he will be a key player for us this season that i have no doubt.....I did not enjoy the first half last night but the second half was all ours and shelvey played a big part in that where liverpool were clueless and could not have complained if we had scored the winner...at the end it was 2 points dropped for us and a good point gained for liverpool....
Very pleased he left because he exactly the type of player we needed replacing. Having said that hes a nice guy and I wish her m well.
The more I watch this the funnier it gets. But back to the topic, I like Jonjo (mainly for his crazy tirade against Fergie after getting sent off). He wasn't the most technical of players and he was a little bit scary going in for tackles but he had a lot of heart and a lot of confidence that really made me warm to him. Really hope his career lifts off at Swansea.
Was just about to say that, sat there watching it for a good 40 seconds before realising that I'd just watching the same 1 second clip over and over
