THREE coach-loads of Newcastle United fans went on a drunken rampage through Lichfield's picturesque streets on Saturday afternoon.

Police were called after the coaches stopped off in the city on their way to a match at Aston Villa.

At around 1pm, residents in Beacon Street were disturbed by shouting, with many of the culprits walking in front of cars and disrupting traffic.

The street itself was littered with bottles, cans and other rubbish, and drinkers left empties on residents' windowsills.

One of the coach drivers later cleared up the rubbish but fans continued to scream and shout up Beacon Street.

There were also gangs of fans hanging around in the city centre.

Police attended the scene but made no arrests.

The coaches were all due to leave by 1.15pm to get to the match but fans remained making a racket in Beacon Street, where residents continued to report intimidating shouting, disruption of cars and the noise of breaking glass.

The yobs eventually left shortly before 2pm, just before police came back.

Community-minded residents from the area all mucked in to help clear up the mess in Beacon Street.

City resident Annette Rubery was one of many residents who witnessed the disturbance.

"Lots of football fans were standing around and shouting in the street, stopping the cars in a huge crowd outside the George and Dragon pub," she said.

"I needed to get to the hairdressers and I didn't dare leave as it was literally outside our window.

    "Residents are fuming.

"People across the road have taken the coach driver's number plate details. He seemed to be clearing up rubbish as a result of complaints."

Another eyewitness saw the coach parked up on the A38 earlier on Saturday.

Some of the occupants appeared to be throwing rubbish over a hedge in a lay-by.

    "A drunken rampage?"

"I didn't dare go to the hairdressers?"

"Someone left a beer tin on a window ledge?"

FFS get a life you sad twat. Good job you weren't around in the 70's and 80's.

I like Lichfield. Nice old place with a lot of history.

Don't know why the mag pissheads didn't stop off in Burton, up the road. There's about 3 or 4 breweries there!

And Sombrero, you don't have to go back to the 70s & 80s, mate. Last April in the toon is far enough. Terrible scenes: riots, fighting in the streets, horses punched... :)

Clearly a lot of effort there to find more dirt to justify another Toon thread on here. <applause><applause><applause><applause><applause>
I suppose any distraction right now is a good one though.

Littering historic towns and drinking their pubs dry is very poor behaviour, Albert. And some innocent womenfolk's hair remains uncoiffed.

    Consider yourselves ticked off.

No Pops, it doesn't. But it seems some folk go a bit OTT regarding Newcastle. This is hardly football violence at its worst?

Even though I am banned from commenting on their board banning them from commenting on here is not the answer Joel. In fact banning the main opposition is actually detrimental to any discussion forum. The moderators on the Sunderland board are quite right to leave their comments as they are posted (not changed like the mags board does) and certainly not banned from posting altogether. Maybe that's why so many Newcastle supporters comment on here because somewhat paradoxically their moderators have made their board so boring.

Seems i missed all the fun on here at the weekend, all that Billy, nowt of nowt malarky.

**** knows what's happening on here lately, seems many are taking hormone tables and turning into reet wussies.

Oh let's ban him, not allowed to say that, mags mods are ****ers etc...ffs get a grip.

They are ****ing skunks, most are not to be trusted, but don't tar them all (unless literally, then feathers).

Sombrero and a few are alreet you know. Daft ****s like neemarefuckingjawdees gives his mundane ****e about plakka mags are tolerated now, it's a strange world....

Oh, and bring back Billy, and before any one starts, yep i did once have him banned, water under the bridge.

Why shouldn't my views be tolerated? The moderators may not agree with them but they leave them open to debate. You object to my reasoning about plakka mags but you yourself take it even further. 'They are fcking skunks, MOST are not be trusted then you advocate tarring and feathering them. So in fact you are worse than me.
