What was everyone's opinion on him on Saturday - personally I thought he was terrible - passing was OK over 5 yards but rubbish after that - every time he tried to run with the ball he fell over (DIVED) the press STILL talk about how he played in that wonderful Arsenal midfield! Personally - on what I've seen of him this season, he isn't even as good as Cattermole!! Except he dives better and gives himself free-kicks
Controlled the game imo We never got near him, never tackled him nor took advantage of his weakness…by which i mean putting him on his non-existent right foot Dived a couple of times and I hate to see that in the game, but as said Atkinson was ****e and looked after the big team
Some of the posters on the Arse nal board are complaining about him going to ground all the time. He wins lots of free kicks that he should not get - one on Saturday which springs to mind was when he pushed our player off the ball then won the free kick when our player tackled back. Personally he reminds me of the villain from the singing ringing tree
He wouldn't have played if not for injury problems. Ozil played in Wilshere usually plays. Wilshere was played in an unfamiliar deeper role which clearly doesn't suit him. Still young enough to adapt like.
We made him look like a world class player on Saturday which for me anyway he isn't although as said he is young enough to be that good possibly. His diving is what he does even for England and yet still the refs give him the majority of them will this change will it ****. If we had got at Arsenal from the outset instead of giving them the freedom of the pitch (first half) then we may have come away with a point however, you cannot give teams like Arsenal that much space and not expect them to win the game, my only surprise was that they only scored once. Arsenals midfield bossed us in the first half and dived for most of the second half to try and slow us down and break the game up as they knew we were a different team second half to the shambles that played in the first.
I never saw anything of Wilshere on Saturday which looked "world class" - COmplained constantly to the referee - he fell over in the first half running into 3 defenders and a complete dead end and reached out for the ball which he couldn't get to - the ref waved play on and we brought it away. In the second half he did exactly the same and this time managed to get the ball and the ref gave him a free kick - even though he'd lost the ball, dived and got hold of the ball (diving and grabbing the ball are both yellow card offences) HE got the free-kick. I though he looked like a horrible little diver - and, like I say, on his performances that I've seen this season, I wouldn't swap him for Cattermole as he is no better (and just as injury prone!!)
With you on the diving mate but, it's a thing that all England players do regularly and regularly get away with it no conspiracy theory there mind just blatant FA bias.
Not at all. I remember when people use to say it was the italians, french, etc that use to bring diving into the english game but players like Wilshire and Young are possibly two of the worst in modern football. It has no place for it, i remember the days when football was a contact sport (and im only 27).
Saw Youngs before the match mate ****ing disgrace another one that keeps doing the same thing week in week out and gets away with it. Strange he plays for a big team as well.
On Ashley Young - How the **** does he get into the England Squad ahead of Adam Johnson!! Setanta say the penalty we got at the weekend was a dive as well??? Yet not a word about Wilshere??
Hopefully technology will creep in more and more and with the amount of cameras, etc the 3rd official will be able to replay incidents like Youngs and then give automatic red cards. Only way to get it out of the game.
I honestly can't see that happening as the FA will say it's underminig the refs. It'll be very similar to Sepp Blatter and Goal-Line tech - when England suffer from it it won't be worthwhile - as soon as England gain from it they'll throw cash at it. When the big clubs gain from it nothing will be done As soon as the big clubs have it happening to them it'll be looked into. Someone called 5 live or talksport on Saturday and said that "why not have an official in the crowd with a radio linkup to the ref. This official watches slow motion replays and can determine if a player has dived or been caught. Without stopping the game, the ref can be advised of the outcome and, if a player has dived, they should be sent off. It is very very difficult for a referee nowadays to see whether a player is caught or whether he has dived - the players are far too good at it so put it out of the refs hands and into a 5th officials hands in the press box with an ipad or laptop with immediate access to the camera angles. It took one watch back of Ashley Young to see that he had dived - straight red, 3 match ban - before they'd even lined up for the penalty they'd have known - free-kick to the "fouler" who didn't foul anyone and a red card to the diver - everyone would be happy with that (except your Ashley Youngs, Steven Gerrards, Jack Wilshere's etc)
Looked a definite dive......BUT......when watched it over a few times clearly takes his trailling leg. Not sure how heavy the contact was but took it all the same.
I felt that Young deliberately trailed his leg to make contact not the bloke caught him. Looked like the defender tried to pull out of the tackle to me.
