My younger brother was at Chester races recently. As he had decided to go at the last minute the only tickets he could get were corporate ones.He went with his mate and their girlfriends. As he was sitting at a table studying a form guide he heard a voice ask if anyone was sitting in the two spare seats at the table. Without looking up he said " No you can have them if you want them, mate". A few minutes later he looked up from his form guide to find he was now sitting next to John Barnes who was there with his partner. He said JB was brilliant company and signed autographs for people all day without any bother. The only bit of hassle was a drunk Everton fan coming over and chanting Everton very loudly a couple of inches away from JB's face. JB apparently did not react and the Everton fan did not stick around when my brother and his mate, ( who are both big lads having worked on building sites all their lives), stood up and suggested he go away or be carried out. Has anyone else met players, of any club, outside of the ground and was it a good or bad experience.
Nobody will top mine .............. I met the one .... the only .... the legend ..... Igor Biscan in Footlocker. I've actually met loads of players but just wanted to make you all jealous with Biscan
I once met Arthur Rowley (every football fan should know who he is) at Shrewsbury's Gay Meadow when I was invited into the directors box. I was with my son who was about 12 at the time and I said to him " why not ask Arhur Rowley to sign your programme. My son was to shy and said he would get it next time we came. Arthur Rowley died a few weeks later. Surprisingly considering his scoring record he was not a very big bloke, bearing in mind when he was playing big centre forwards were the norm.
Net Emilyn Hughes properly once, really nice bloke, short but built like the proverbial out house. Met Julian Dicks in Tenerife just after he'd left Liverpool and asked him for his autograph "even though he wasn't our player" he took it in great humour and refused to let me buy him a drink buying me and my 9 mates a couple of beers each instead -Really nice bloke!
Players I've met.... Phil Babb Terry Venables Patrick Viera Sol Campbell Frank Sinclair Jason Scotland Scott Young Chris Coleman
