I can sympathise with your plight, looks like we're treading a similar path at Rovers. Taken from the OS today; We have received news that an official Judicial Review application has been lodged with the High Court. The application, on behalf of TRASHORFIELD Limited, questions the validity of the planning permission granted to J Sainsbury’s on the current Memorial Stadium site. Written legal representations will now be made to the High Court, which we hope will be reviewed within the next ten to twelve weeks, and the High Court judge will then make a decision on whether to proceed to a full-scale review. Whilst we are massively disappointed that a JR application has been submitted, we urge supporters to stay calm as we work through this with our partners.
As someone supposedly famous once said "It's been an annus horribilus" My latin may not be so great as I slept through most of the classes.
How about the new home to the bristol bulldogs speedway club and bangor racing plus biggest gypo camp in southwest
Trying to be as pragmatic as I can, the problem I have is with the SYSTEM rather than the Nimbys themselves. The site was a rubbish tip and perhaps SL should restore it to its former purpose. I can understand people not wanting a football stadium looming in their back garden, but the only people who will benefit from all this will be the lawyers. Without condoning in any way, those residents have probably condemned themselves to years of prejudice and hatred this devaluing their area anyway. And I expect that there are very few original residents who were born and bred in Long Ashton - it's a nice commuter village for people who will live there for 10 years max before moving on when their contract expires. They don't want to see their investment slow in appreciation.
Those residents have condemned ... Ridiculous. The resentment goes the other way City are seen as bullies by many. The club does not enjoy the support many think it does there was no rallying call from BS3 for the Ashton Vale project even in the City pubs themslves there were no petitions and banners. Long Ashton is not Ashton Vale. The two communities are really different and many residents in Ashton Vale have been there a very long time. The application for the tvg was from ashton vale. 180 people put evidence forward and some of those would have to have lived there twenty years to have done so. Restore it, .. only a section was a rubbish tip.
Tens of thousands of people from the Bristol area want new stadiums for both clubs that can take them forward and into the 21st century. AG and the Mem don't make money as existing structures as they built for one thing only (sport) that sit idle 95% of the time. Both clubs are struggling with gates and cant offer much in the way of conference of leisure facilities so both are white elephants. We live in a backwater, controlled by Muppets who don't live here, have any common sense and with laws and courses of appeals that in most right thinking countries would be laughed at before they ever got to court. Funny how the likes of Rotherham build a lovely new stadium fairly centrally, and with the help and full backing of their local council who appreciate what a new stadium can bring to the town and the local community in terms of facilities and wealth. We get a turn of the last century ground for City and a rugby stadium for the blue few Perhaps SL should acquire part of the Severn Estuary and build an island there for a stadium.
Bit of objectivity. Tens of thousands signed a petition even though they didnt really understand what it is about. people away from a handful didnt know who would own it and how it would be financed even know the business plan has never been revealed. At a Q& A colin sexton couldnt answer thise questiond. so what were people backing?? Thousands of people in bs3 and long sshton vote for coucillors who are pro green belt to level that out. Ashton Gatre does make money, the head of Bristol sport says it is viable, will make enough money and he is Steve Lansdowns right hand man not a poster on a forum. The council have granted applications for a new stadium and previous stands at Ashton Gate. They have also used tax payers money to back ashton vale. Rotherham did not build a stadium on a green belt and also had no stadium at all. The ashton vale project was always going to run into wide opposition and has. Most people in Bristol dont give a **** about either project and that is hundreds of thousands. Again where is the huge support even in BS3? Petitions, banners, barely a bristol wants a new stadium poster to be seen. Having lived elsewhere and abroad i know Bristol is a great place a vibrant place and hardly a backwater.
During the consultancy this point was raised by a fan with a background in accountancy- financial services. The club could not, or would not explain who would own all on site assets and profit from the associated revenue. It was logical to assume that Bristol City would be a business partner at Ashton Vale. Revenue it would follow would then be shared amongst partners. A re-developed Ashton Gate could make more money for BCFC, if they (franchises outstanding) where the sole beneficary of its income. I am guarderd there with the use of could, and an assumption v your assertion.
. a very large section to boot and it wasn't just in one place of the total area covered, it pretty much encompassed all of the area in question excepting from area's that were not allowed or impractible, Whilst no tipping or very little, (it was being landscaped and "stuff" was needed to complete it), it was at least 2 years after the accepted date it was worked on...........
It was never a forty acre tip. and the land was in use by the locals. That is why the council split it. The tip owners evidence and areial photos put thst fact right out of the window. Forget two years it could be months either way.
I spent quite a long time there Wurzel They had a saying when playing football in the town square (if that be the word for it), dont let the ball go into the bushes, and if it does dont go in after it, because the Icelandic women will get you and eat you. My band played a gig in the community centre (if that be the word for it). It was one of the strangest shows I have experienced in 30 years of performing. We played our show, got back in the dressing room to recover, and the club manager came in to see when we were going back on (?!) During the 'second half' a troupe of Icelandic women got up on stage and began to lay flowers everywhere, covering us and all our equipment in flowers (obviously great Morrisey fans), and all wanted to hug the bass player who got very scared. I always back up my facts with reality Wurzel, and NEVER rant about anywhere unless I have extensive first hand knowledge of the place. Which England game was it that took you through Christiania that night ?
did you ever work there? did you ever deliver there? did you have an uncle working there? did you have 3 mates work there? did you know 4 drivers that used to drop there regularly? did you ever visit there? and did visit or at least go past the site a year on from the last refuse delivery? ps did you make a statement to the inquisition?
Not quite right. I visited Rotherham (god help me!) on many occasions from 2010 - 2012 Last time I was there, Millmoor, their original but condemned ground, was still standing, along with the New York Stadium, although they're around 3/4 mile apart.
8-9 years ago match was In Gothenburg, not Cophenhagnen. Flew to Cophenhagen, coach to Gothenburg with forty City. Recall a enormous bridge en route. Ended up in Christianna after punks anarchist types told us of a cheaper more friendly place to drink due to police shutting the bar we were in.
Its a case of not in my backyard. I guess what the locals have to bear in mind is eventually something will be built there as its a big bit of land so they had a chance to work with the club which would have created jobs and homes to boost to city instead they have fought the idea which has cost millions of wasted money. Cant imagine the next person will be so willing to sit back and do nothing. The council sold SL the land on the basis he could build a stadium. Now that isn't going to happen will SL go after the council to get his money back or will he sell it to someone else as SL isn't going to pay that much money for nothing as he is one of the top businessman in the country.
