Says PDC:- Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio has urged defender Jack Colback to sign a new contract with the club and believes the 25-year-old can go on to establish himself as one of the best left-backs in the country. Colback is currently considering his future with the club amid fears his first team plans could be limited by the transfer deadline day arrival of former Liverpool full-back Andrea Dossena. But Di Canio is determined to keep hold of Colback, who is likely to keep his place against Arsenal at the Stadium of Light tomorrow, with Dossena still a week away from achieving match fitness. Di Canio said: âJack is in negotiations but I hope he is going to sign a new contract because it would be difficult for him to find a better club than Sunderland. âI know Jack wasnât happy in general at the end of last year and I had a chat and told him I donât want unhappy people here, but he has a big chance this year. âIn my opinion Jack is one of the best few left-backs in the country. He has all the characteristic qualities â he is aggressive, tough and intelligent and he can push forward. âIt depends on him but Iâm very satisfied with the way he played in the last few games. He deserves a new contract and he can have a very good future here.â Di Canio is considering whether to end Wes Brownâs 18-month absence from first team action against the Gunners on Saturday. Brown has continued to recover well from his long-standing knee injury and played a full part in training this week - but Di Canio admits he has doubts over whether the weekend is the right time for his return. Di Canio said: âWes is looking much better than he did last week and this is a good signal, so I am going to decide tomorrow what to do with him. âWes is very close. It was important he had a good session with the rest of his team-mates and I will decide if he going to be involved in this game â which is a hard game â after so many months out.â
Sorry Paolo you will never convince me, the lad does a decent job filling in but no more. Can't knock the lads attitude but he is a very limited player.
I don't know like. I voiced my views how he didn't get forward enough last season but he's improved going forward tenfold this season. He's better defensively than Rose and now he's attack side is coming together nicely. Nowhere near the best in the county but the fact he can play multiple positions tells me he's anything but limited.
'better defensively than Rose'. Erm, no he isn't in fact Rose is better at every aspect of the game than Colback. Rose is an excellent player. Colback isn't.
You really can't see Rose's defensive frailties? His positioning is all over the place. Danny is the real deal going forward to the point I think he'd be a better winger and I expect the lad to move further up the pitch as his career develops like Bale did but ask the Spurs fans what they think of his defensives skills. Jesus man. Get some ****ing glasses. .
Spot on mate. Besides, with the cb pairing having it's teething problems I'm glad for Jacks defensive skills. Shame he'll never be in Rose's league going forward but I'm impressed with his attacking progression over the summer. Hope he can start hitting the byline because a natural left footed cross will give us lovely width and cause lots of problems.
i'll go as far to say I detested going to the match knowing Jack was playing in midfield(especially with Catts) however, all the credit in the world at how he's performing at LB. I for one would be happy for him to stay in that position. Doing nothing wrong..........so must be doing everything right. Can't afford him to go for free.
Remember who you're writing this message to and how the fact that JC is a geordie comes into play - if there was a Geordie who played every week as well as Messi and he signed for us and he STILL played every week as well as Messi, NMG would slag him off - simply because he's a geordie. JC is a good full back - I do think, to a point, PDC is saying the right things to get him to pen a new deal but, overall, I want him playing for us as I rate the lad. Good cover in various spots - put a great cross in from an excellent overlap for Fletchers' goal against Palace as well - more of that and we have a great little player on our hands Edit: As he's an academy graduate, aren't we entitled to some sort of compo if he leaves when his contract runs out? Or is that just if the player is under a certain age??
I never had jack down as a full back but perhaps if he puts his head down and works at it, he will have a career there. Still think his positioning is poor at times but there is no doubt he has improved. However, Rose offers a step up in class for the role PDC says he wants off his full backs in terms of pace, attacking threat and interchanging with winger. Of that nothing will convince md otherwise.
My past posts would indicate that I am against Colback simply because he is a geordie. However, I do genuinely believe Rose is a much better player and was never more confident than at Sid James in April when they attacked him I repeatedly said to my marrar they won't get past Rose and they never did. The Messi thing will no doubt open me up to ridicule but I think he is an excellent player who freezes in the big games Chelsea cl semi final losing ball to lampard and missing penalty and bayern really just took the piss out of him. Messi is football's equivalent to golf's lee westwood erm imo a choker.
