unbelievable player and probably the biggest 'talent' we have as a national team. The only question is about his physical ability as he's a few serious injuries for a 21 year old but if he can keep himself conditioned and relatively injury free he could do the sort of things we expected the likes of Joe Cole to achieve and probably more.

Yes i agree and there is certainly a bit of Joe Cole about him, although I'd say Wilshere is the better player because Wilshere is more dominant playmakerwho can play Cm and dictate play whereas Cole plays more in the free role.

Yes lets hope he steers clear of injury, although because of the way he plays, drawing people into the tackle I'm not so sure.

We will miss Gerrard and Lampard when they're gone. They used to say that you couldn't play the two together but they're making it work. Walcott had an off day but he is capable of winning games in a heartbeat. I didn't think it was entirely his fault, Lambert's positioning was all over the shop so our attacks were disjointed all evening and when Walcott and Young switched it was hopeless. I quite like 4-3-3 but it was too much of a 4-5-1 on Tuesday, Walcott's at his best when he's out wide right leading a break or taking on the full back or centre back rather than playing balls through.

The fact that we missed Wellbeck just goes to show the lack of talented footballers we have to call on, twenty years ago a player of Wellbecks talent wouldn't get near the squad let alone starting line up................imo.

You know despite me rating both Gerrard and Lampard I'm not sure we'll miss them that much when they're gone, you never know we might be a better team with lesser players.

Yes I like the 433, it seems to suit us more, think you're being a little harsh on Lambert, not sure he could do much more tbh, I thought Walcott was rubbish, he did a David Norris, wherever there was the most opposition players on the pitch he ran straight for them. We were far to narrow and kept trying play in crowded areas through the centre when we would've been much better going out wide. Milner and Walcott were both too narrow and kept running into trouble, although I feel that might have been a tactic to stifle the opposition abit so it worked in that sense.

That pass inbetween the CB and LB from Wilshere to Walcott was starting to bare real fruit but the other night we only saw that in the first few minutes.

    Wilshere... Don't make me Laugh!

He is the most overrated player to ever wear the Team SKY Shirt! Every time he got the ball he gave it away or fell over. We are really scraping the barrel now!

You have got to be kidding? Twenty years ago John Fashanu, Steve Bull and Brian Deane were getting a game for England. We don't have a Lineker or Shearer type right now - Rooney is just not in that class - but Welbeck would have got into any England team of the last forty years.

    Welbeck <laugh>

He can't hit a cows arse with a banjo most of the time! Sturridge is far better finisher!

To say that Welbeck would walk into any past England side is just plain daft!

    Cocksuckers.

He wouldn't get in ahead of Lineker, Shearer, Sheringham or Owen but that's about it.

Weighty's comment was that he wouldn't get NEAR A SQUAD that Deane and Bull and Fashanu got into which is obviously tosh. He would have been in the XI or on the bench for any team of the last 40 years.

People are talking a lot of tosh about the lack of quality available. They forget the **** and average players that used to turn out for our national side.

Have to say I agree with Hamps, well not the walking into any England team but whilst Welbeck isn't the best player, he's no different, actually he's probably better than some of the players we had playing 20 years ago.

I still think we have a decent first 11 and maybe even second 11 but beyond that I'm not sure, there simply aren't enough english players getting a chance in the PL.

WCP if you go around saying things like 'I always suspected you don't know what you're talking about' like a knob you'll get it back.

I actually rate welbeck and think him and sturidge are the furture. Rooney is over rated, he is not tbe player he was. Altough give me a Shearer, Owen (in prime) or fowler any day above either of the Danny's!!

For me we miss a cretive mid fielder. Both Gerrard and Lampard are great, but they don't have the creativity of a xavi, mata, hazard, nasri, ozil....

Welbeck might well be the future but in my opinion he was brought into the full team far too early probably because he played a few games for Man utd....

He is not as good as Shearer,Sheringham,Fowler,Owen,Les Ferdinand,Peter Beardsley,Ian Wright.......

IMO opinion Welbeck is a sad indicament of where we are. Sturridge is the more natural goal scorer and with a fit and raring to go Rooney just behind him is the next few years. Walcott on his day(and I wish he'd have more in an England shirt) can hurt most defenders in the world. Don't all pan me for this one but given enough club football and showing the potential he has I'd like to see Adam Johnson back in the fold. Always looking to take on defenders. As for the Wilshire debate,I rate the lad highly. Very highly. He is always wanting to go forward trying to make things happen. Unlike Cleverley who IMO I cannot see what he does at all. Lamps and Gerrard will be a big miss when they quit and then we may fully appreciate how good they were.
