Not for me, a mere mortal, to tell our talented gaffer how to do his job. I leave it up to The Boss. Question is, who will learn most from reading this, the manager or the fans ? Sir Alex Ferguson has unveiled his managerial blueprint - whilst admitting the conditions that allowed him to be so successful at Manchester United are unlikely ever to be replicated. Over a series of interviews with Harvard Business School professor Anita Elberse in 2012, Ferguson went into detail about what he believed to be the key elements of his job. This is an edited version of his theories, which appear in full in the October edition of the Harvard Business Review. 1. Start with the foundation "The first thought of 99% of newly appointed managers is to make sure they win - to survive. They bring experienced players in. At some clubs, you need only to lose three games in a row, and you're fired." Sir Alex Ferguson "From the moment I got to Manchester United, I thought of only one thing: building a football club. I wanted to build right from the bottom. The first thought of 99% of newly appointed managers is to make sure they win - to survive. They bring experienced players in. At some clubs, you need only to lose three games in a row, and you're fired. In today's football world, with a new breed of directors and owners, I am not sure any club would have the patience to wait for a manager to build a team over a four-year period. Winning a game is only a short-term gain - you can lose the next game. Building a club brings stability and consistency." Which is basically what Sean O'Driscoll is all about building a club from the bottom up we can but hope that eventually he gets us the same type of end result as Sir AF eventually achieved. The answer to your question is easy S O'D knows all of this it is the impatient fans who need educating.
Here's hoping people like Redprintt & a few others read this & take it in, SO'D & his staff are the perfect team to get our club up & running again, let us have patience & lot of it too, stay with SO'D & we can be the future "Swansea City" I believe we can go that far as long as he stays our manager for a long time, end the sackings, Shaun will get us there.
Which is precisely why I said "who would benefit more from reading it." Its also the reason I put the thread up here. Personally I think O'Driscoll is doing a sterling job, and given enough time will have us pressing for a place in the Prem. But Rome wasnt built in a day, and putting Bristol City in the Premiership is nearly as big a task
I love it fans are understanding SoD,he will take us far, stay behind him fellow fans,we have a gem running the football team.
The big question is can we,will we be able to keep him here. I hope so,SoD and city are a perfect match.
Unless we sack him I think he will stay for several years I remember an Interview he did many years back when he said something along the lines of that he would never manage in the Premiership unless he found a club with the financial resources and a board prepared to work with him to be able to build a team that he could take to the Premiership - With Steve Lansdown he has someone with the financial clout to enable Sean to build the sort of team he was thinking of all those years ago a lot of good youngsters arriving through the academy system and if we were in a position in the championship to have a serious crack at the prem I have no doubt SL would find a way of getting any player Sean thought would get us there.
I think that's unfair Bigjohn, I've never heard Redprint complain about SoD or anyone else really? All Redprint has said is he can't believe he started with Kilkenny this season, which to be fair none of us could believe. But we have all been supportive and don't want a change in the management. Most of us appreciate it's not going to be a quick fix, and it will take a few seasons to achieve what we all want.
A reassuring collection of opinions, at a club which has seen much upheaval during the last 5 years. Seeing Gary Johnson in the Championship with Yeovil (!) is an eye opener, but not totally unpredictable. Its time for this club-players & management, board and fans, to pull together now and will the club back up the league to where they should belong. That will require real togetherness, because nothing will happen without it I really hope O'Driscoll reads this one (although I would be amazed if he did).
