There are too many foreigners playing football in this country, that is a fact. Compare it to the statistics of successful european sides like Spain, Germany, Italy and France, and it's quite frightening how low the number of English players there are playing week in, week out in the top flight over here. That said, whether or not the lack of English players is seriously harming our international side is a different argument. There are plenty of good international sides who have the vast majority of their squad playing in different leagues (Brazil, Argentina, Belgium...), so maybe you're right about English players needing to play abroad.

Kiwi just give it time if Pochettino stay at Southampton for longer enough I can see it being like Arsenal or Chelsea where the young talent won't get a good look in then there will be some good talent dropping down the leagues or going to another Prem club because their manager can see a spark of talent like Bentley when he moved to Blackburn.

Revolution there are too many foreign player in the Prem. When it first started there was only 20 non British Players not there is about 32% British players that less than a 3rd. How are me meant to compete with the best when only a 3rd of the player in our top 20 clubs are British. How ever I do agree with you with need our players to go out abroad. You look at the Belgium Squad a lot their players play in Foreign leagues at it's benefiting the their national squad. It would benefit our players to play under different coaches abroad picking up skills/techniques from different leagues

Some good points, but how will our players go abroad if they are not good enough for their own league.
Most english players are overhyped by their own fans and the press, gerrard, lampard, cole all in their twighlight years yet earn mental money.
There needs to be a limit of how many non brits you can field, sadly mr bosman fecked that up for all of us.
And the FA (do fa) can talk all they like about grass roots, but kids get snapped up by big clubs from 10 years old and never make it,because they never get a look in at the higher level, easier just to go buy an import.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one mate, I really do think Pochettino is committed to bringing through the youth players there - why else would he play them? He has more experienced foreign players available to him. Mind you, I do question the sense in hiring a manager who, over 6 months into the job, is still incapable of conducting an interview in English...

You'll never get rid of agents, but what you can do is regulate them better. The system works fine in the entertainments industry etc. The primary change I'd make is for it to be illegal for money to pass from clubs to agents when signing a player. Players should employ the agent & give them a cut of their earnings. Works everywhere else, why should football be different. I'm also not sure (and I might just be stupid here) why clubs have to employ agents? The old system of scout finds player, club decide to buy & approach other club (with or without illegal tapping). Why do we need agents paid by clubs now when looking at a player. Is this simly a paid tapping loophole?

The current system is absolutely ludicrous.

Trouble is England were useless for at least 25 years before Sky came into existence, and there were hardly any foreign players plying their trade in this country. Now there are loads of foreign players and England are...well, still useless. No technique, no brains either, to understand systems and how to implement them. It must be a cultural thing, the full sized muddy pitches that English kids are used to playing on from a very young age.
It's not exactly total football is it? And you can't keep blaming Jonny Foreigner for all our ills. If English players were good enough they'd be regular starters for English clubs, or playing in the Bundesliga or la Liga

Essex we were not as bad as we are now even getting to a semi final losing on penalties to yes the Germans!
County cricket took this rule up and our cricket team has flourished so lets give it a try you may find some clubs adapting better than others and young talent will be given a chance whereas now they are left simply to rot

I think a lot of English players could get in to European clubs but I think they're afraid to because they think they won't get chosen for England. If players don't in England or for Real you never see them in the England set up. Look at Hooper who's been on fire in the SPL but didn't get a wiff of an England while Wellbeck doesn't get an automatic spot in the Scum line up as their are better players than him infront in the pecking order.

I agree with an player capon non-English players but I think the freedom of movement with in the EU for EU citizens and the right to work kind of puts the stopper on that one.
