People always complain about foreign players coming over to Britain, so how about some of the British players get some balls and make the move abroad rather than sitting bench warming. Players learning from different football cultures would be a great benefit. And this doesn't have to stop at the senior players, Young players would also benefit from moving to foreign academies. Imagine if we'd had a few English players go through La Masia. Obviously they have to be good enough and thats where better skills coaching at junior levels are needed.
Just off the top you have Eric Dier at Sporting and there was a lad who was at leeds and is now at Athletico Madrid just off the top of my head but do agree with the point. A lot of US players from 18-22 are looking to go abroad actually if they have the credentials or the parents to allow this to happen ( we have one marc pelosi at our own club and Bijev).
Get rid of Jonny Foreigner and have most teams full of English players. It worked with Scotland right...
That again is a problem the wages paid in the Championship are higher than lower teams in La Liga and the wages in the Spanish B league are nowhere near the Championship. Players need to be less greedy why not move to a Spanish team and get paid less? You still have the weather and lifestyle and great house with a pool and the cost of living is cheaper and lets face it we are not talking about living in poverty here they would still be a pro footballer.
Meulensteen: “It’s called “Foot-Ball” for a reason. You control the ball with your feet. If you can do this very well, you control the game. You can score more and have more possession. Therefore, teaching kids who to own that ball is key. All the other elements – athleticism, vision, mentality – will come after that.”
The English league is just perfect though, why would you want to leave? Playing football in front of big crowds every week, good money, staying close to your family, staying in a place you are comfortable and familiar in. And the championship is the 4th/5th highest league in Europe in terms of attendances so why sacrifice all that to play in front of tiny crowds, less money and hardly any tv exposure? Sounds like a poor deal to me.
But what about if you make the sacrifice for a few years (as a young player) and that means you end up as a Prem player instead of a Championship player....just a thought.
Slightly irrelevant but I hate internationals, I hate watching England internationals. No one is really willing for us to win, just for our club players to have good games and to come out of them not injured, while we secretly hope our rival's players have shockers so we can stick the knife in. There's too much hype, too much pressure and let's be honest, we don't enjoy watching England play any more. And the mouldy cherry on the ****e cake is Roy Hodgson.. How can players like Wilshere, Sturridge, Rooney flourish in a system that's dedicated to shape and discipline? Sven, Mclaren, Capello, can't we have a manager who likes there team to play?
Good money, good crowds etc - yes. The quality of the football league is terrible - you only have to watch MOTD and then Football League show right after just to get a glimpse of how poor it really is.
That's the problem - internationals have lost their prestige due to our lack of success. We won't be successful until we become more passionate as a country but that won't happen until we start winning and winning well. It's a cycle really. England had a great opportunity when Capello and Pearce left. Redknapp and Hoddle should have been appointed - both are attacking managers and they would have been good at motivating. But then we have a problem with the players that come through - grassroots needs a complete overhaul.
