I've seen it hundreds of times, but I never realised it was supposed to spell HULL at the top...

To be fair, until it's highlighted, it's not very obvious...

Respect, Industry, Prosper. Looked at it a hundred times never noticed it said Hull, I can now annoy people pointing it out. I might even stand next to the Strawberry bloke shouting it.

Wasn't it done when the marina was launched? I had no idea that it spelt Hull.

never even saw it when I did walk past BHS, it looks like it was trying to be modern - whoever designed it must be delighted with the amount of people not realising with it was

The Marina only opened in 1983, that mosiac had been there since the building went up in 1963.

Some useless info....it's at 32-38 Jameson Street, it was built in 1963, the mosaic was designed by Alan Boyson and it was commissioned by Hull Co-operative Society.

I believe it's actually "Prosperity in Industry".

"Business success from Industry" is a closer translation, but it can be interpreted a few ways I guess.

Brings back memories, Lambo. Before your time, I reckon, but been to some great gigs at the old Skyline Ballroom, above the old Co-op.

Small Faces, Cream, Geno Washinton, (missed Hendrix!!!).

It must have been re-done at the time the Marina opened? I can remember walking around the Marina opening day with my Grandad, aged 8, then going to see that thing above BHS, I'm sure it was having a face lift. I walked past that bloody thing for 2 years to Hull College and didn't realise it spelt 'Hull'. Well done to the artist, seems to have caught everyone out!
