I just stumbled across this: http://tinyurl.com/3apj9jp It certainly makes for interesting reading - but is Spurs' supposed wage bracket holding them back? Wayne Bridge - 5m Euros per year?!
Lovely to see none of our players in there. Makes you realise how well we've done to get the players we have and get in this position.
How long before the likes of Bale and Modric take a look a the upper part of the table and realise that they are better than a lot of those players and that they should be earning that money. Somewhere along the line we are going to have to break our wage cap if we are to attract very good players.
Valid point mate as alot of fans seem to take pride in the fact our players aren't being paid mega bucks compared to other clubs but the only way our top players will resist moving for money is if we help them achieve their goals in football yet how can we compete with the other teams if we won't pay big money to get these players, this puts too much pressure on us to try and do well, knowing that if we fail we will lose players and then have to find the next bale who will end up getting sold and the process starts again. Clubs who are similar to us, the goons & everton and these two are the same, don't spend big money on wages and don't win the big trophies. I think with us, we have actually got the money and what happens if Levy and Redknapp see a top top player that wants to come to spurs but is on a wage higher then what we pay, but redknapp and levy both believe he is what is needed to take us to the next level? I bet he won't be signed as Levy knows he would have to increase the wage of players like modric and bale and that is where this wage cap of ours causes a big problem
What made me chuckle was that Yaya Touré earns more than the whole Brazlian league put together. That's crazy!
I'm not surprised Bridge, Johnson and Barry are overpaid - Man City lob jacked-up wages at players they sign, whilst Liverpool seem to be an agent's dream when it comes to negotiations. I mean, Andy Carroll is earning 5m Euros a year - that's more than Berbatov, Milito, or Forlan - and he certainly isn't a better striker than they are.
How can English players be paid that much. Carroll more than Forlan? Liverpool need to learn to negotiate
Unbelievable. Manchester City, having never played in the Champions League, have a bigger wage bill than Juventus, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich put together. That is just totally and utterly wrong.
Arsenal's wage bill is much higher than both us and Everton's. It's around the same level as Liverpool's and not far off Man Utd's, I believe. http://www.scribd.com/fullscreen/31609751 A couple of years old, but Arsenal's bill was only £5m off being equal to the combined bill of Spurs and Everton.
Just to put things into perspective, the earnings of the top 9 players on that list eclipse the total annual earnings of the FairTrade Foundation - totally absurd!
Ah surprised at that, thought the goons were tight! I guess that shows how far behind we are as that means Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal & Liverpool are paying the top wages and we're trying to compete and better these teams and while we can still win a cup or get to 4th and have a good cup run, there is no way we're going to mount a title challenge or get to a champions league final unless we get rid of the wage cap or find the new jose mourinho!
Jose Mourinho? Have a look at that list, again. How many of them have played for The Special One? As for our wage bill, that's why Levy is so desperate to move to a bigger stadium. We might do particularly well for a season or two, but we can't compete in the long term with these teams, as things stand. They vastly outspend us.
No mate, was an example of a coach that can get a team to excel beyond its means and get to a champions league final, nothing about wages. As for the move to a new stadium, yes that is important yet that is just more spin and you can take it which ever way you choose and while this club is ran well in a financial sense, with that comes limitations and the there is zero chance of us getting to the level the fans and our top players expect unless changes are made to the wage budget and that doesn't rely solely on the stadium move.
No, but the other aspects that it depends upon (sponsorship, for example) seem to be well managed by Levy. The stadium is by far the largest factor.
It really depends which way you look at how the club is run as right now I see us being run as a business with a long term plan which means we won't struggle or be in danger yet there are limitations as to what we can achieve from a football aspect. If we move to a bigger stadium, will aspects change, I very much doubt it and while success will occur, it won't be on a level that the fans hope for as we simply won't be able to compete with our rivals in terms of a financial sense.
