The Sunderland skipper, 32, was slammed by the fiery Italian after conceding a penalty in the Black Catsâ 3-1 defeat at Crystal Palace eight days ago. But within 48 hours Di Canio was on the phone to the Republic of Ireland defender â offering him an olive branch. OâShea said: âHe rang me the next day and all is nice. Getting criticised is one of those things and that is his style of management. âWhat he had to say to me is private but let me put it to you this way, it was him calling me. âThe criticism does not bother me in the slightest. âIt is water off a duckâs back to someone like me. âBecause he is such a passionate man, everything he does is getting hyped up. âThe only thing I am annoyed about is the fact that I let the team down.â
Big of him to call and at least explain his outburst...but lets hope he learns from this and thinks before he does this again. This style of man management isn't going to cut it with millionaire prima donna's, He needs to be a bit more clever than just ranting at the end of a game.
An admission that PDC was wrong in the first place to have done it. Hopefully he has learned to keep the dressing room private in future. For this story to have been released tells me that the incident DID create a problem and perhaps a rift within the ranks. It may not be what some people want to acknowledge but to me it looks like it.
How? O'Shea would have been doing media duties with Ireland and he would have been asked about Di Canio's interview. To which he answered basically "No big deal" “It is water off a duck’s back to someone like me. “Because he is such a passionate man, everything he does is getting hyped up. “The only thing I am annoyed about is the fact that I let the team down." How you think there was a problem from that is baffling
Another lesson learned by pdc, everybody makes mistakes and learns from them when your on the learning curve and pdc is on a massive one. I'm pleased about this
Yep. I still don't think what he said was wrong but he should now know that anything he says the media will desperately try twist it
absolutely mate, everything he does is under scrutiny and when the media get hold of a titbit its magnified 10 fold, JOS is long enough in the tooth to realise this as it seems are the rest of the team, the way fletch dismissed the mayo crack on footy focus - there was no welcome back fletch it was first question. every player is taking every opportunity in the media to back the manager, just this week alone we've seen giacc, wickham, JOS, larsson, dossena to name but a few. All i want from pdc is to watch his gob and i'll be perfectly happy with him bring on the arse!
What you do in your own time is entirely up to you mate! On topic, seems like JOS has confirmed it caused absolutely no problem with the players, just the media getting wound up about nothing. It is nice to hear that Paolo called JOS to explain though. As has been said above though, still hope Paolo has learned from this to keep this kind of thing quiet, puely to avoid the media witch hunt which has ensued.
Water off a ducks back............. never mind John there is plenty of people who will get upset for you ! even if you aren't .
It wasn't an outburst, he isn't saying he was wrong, he's just being nice and the player agrees with both the criticism and the subsequent gesture ....... end of story. Why do people feel the need to build these things up out of proportion?
This says it all, top pro JOS, he will have learned from the situation and so will PDC. I think the outcome of all of this will be positive for all involved.
Nowhere. I bet Di Canio just rang him and told him to ignore everything the press have been saying as they're looking to cause trouble.. “Because he is such a passionate man, everything he does is getting hyped up."
It's poor when irritating people dress up a few harmless comments as Di Canio 'slamming/crucifying/attacking' players. Obvious agendas and a lack of the nous or ability to disguise it.
