Sky sports man Graeme Bailey tweeted couple of hours ago "I understand there may be news on Henderson in next 24 hours" He's very often right. BUT What would my fellow SAFC fans like the news to be. a) Sunderland accept 18.5m bid for JH b) Henderson commits future to Sunderland c) Sunderland turn down 18.5m bid for JH but agree to sell Lee Cattermole Vote now, c for me like.
b for me TBH but the behind-the-scenes realities will determine the outcome. Many things, like the wage structure, will have to change over time before SAFC can attract and keep the sort of players to constantly challenge for Top 6. It cannot happen overnight. JH looks like being the first voluntary casualty of commercial reality (Bent was a different case).
b - we need to be signing and building a team, not ripping it apart other wise be prepared for relegation after relegation battle, be careful what you wish for
we should NOT sell any first teamers in this window, we just don't have the strength in depth at the moment. cattermole may be the exception (dont get me wrong hes a great player on his day) but hes had alot of injury's the past couple of years and if we get a decent price say 10 mill thats a good price. cant wait until we start signing players instead of just talking about it because all the paper talk is basically some fat jorno making bs up.
If hendo goes for 18.5m then so be it. Its not like any of us have a say in it. I just hope SB get 42.5m to spend this summer 24m from bent & the rest from JH move to ?
I would rather keep Henderson, let Short stick in another 15 mil on top of the Bent money. He would of given us that if we hadn't sold bent, why should that change because we have?
If we do sell him then it puts us the same bracket as the West Broms of the league. Spurs were ambitious and got where they by hanging onto their good players, attracting more good players and selling mediocre players for big bucks. If the club really is as ambitious as Quinn claims they will make Hendo an offer that will keep him at the Sol. personnally I think if we keep players like Henderson and build a decent squad we have just as much chance of getting in to europe as Liverpool. The first half of last season showed we had a lot of promise. I also believe Henderson going to Liverpool will be the same as Bent to Villa. Livrpool fans and the club are living in a world of dillusion based on the glories of the past. They also seem to have already forgotten just how close they came to being bankrupt and are again throwing money arround indiscriminately.
Immense first half to the season. Average/poor second half. He's going to be a top player IMO. If Carroll is worth £35mil then Henderson's worth £20mil.
