BREAKING: BBC understands Bristol City have agreed a deal with town green campaigners guaranteeing not to build a stadium on Ashton Vale

Deal dependant on council postponing planning inquiry into town green, and Bristol City getting permission to redevelop Ashton Gate.

If we get permission for AG to be redeveloped we will not be pursuing with AV..... Disappointing really

Stuck at the new mediocre Ashton Gate isn't a thrilling prospect.

These people have lied, played the legal system and cost the tax payers thousands.

But why? Screw the bloody Nimbys.

Why do you have to cut a 'deal' NOT to build a stadium? Surely this kind of decision should be made after October?

Makes my blood boil these bastards continually holding Bristol back <grr>

If this was true Steve Lansdown would be still vigorously pursuing his project.

I hope they do. It will take a lot longer, They will be more pissed off with all the new people moving in. A ground would have took 1 afternoon of their lives every other Saturday for 3/4 of the year. These houses will piss them off every day....

I remember when I went to a meeting at college green a few years back. One of the people against the ground stood up and made a protest about newts! ****ing pathetic

What they should do is turn it into a massive traveller site, now that would please me very much, wonder what the people opposed to the stadium would think of that.

Newts are always preventing construction not just in Bristol mate, they can hold things up just on people claiming to see them. They then have to investigate to see if they are on the land. You would be surprised at the amount of stuff they hold up due to being nearly extinct. Don't get that if they are so rare how the **** these protesters find them? It's held up a race track in Merthyr, now that's gone through its the ambient light the track will create on the Brecons. Hopefully it's due to start next year.

Well surely they deserved to be in a better habitat that what it is now? As you said if they are that rare, Move them somewhere where they can be looked after properly.

Another backward step in the messed up life of Bristol City Football Club, and when you consider the money spent on pursuing this dream, it make it even more sickening.

If I were a Lansdown I would be on the phone right now and tell Border Services that I have found a place to locate the 50,000 foreigners that are due to arrive on British soil on Jan 1st, 2014. Just makes sense to me but then again I am widely regarded as a curmudgeonly old fart with jaundiced views of all and sundry. So there it is sorted and I am sure no-one will disagree with my thoughts for the best use of their beloved village green EH!

No wonder Bristol is a footballing backwater

If that happened in Leeds, the nimbies would have been run out of town in a weekend.
Not that it would happen, because even the little old ladies are football nuts up here.
Still rather live in Bristol though....

I blame the newts and Lee Johnson for this....and possibly Neil Killkenny a little?

I just don't get it.....its SL's land yet he had to strike a deal with someone?...a deal NOT to build a stadium?

He must have agreed a fee with someone to sell the land for houses and perhaps wants to use that money on AG?

In a way I am glad it is at least getting sorted one way or the other, but still believe the new stadium was the future.....

Could get the badger cullers in .. but accidentally miss a few ... and instead accidentally hit some of the locals. Oops.

A whole field of travellers would be quite funny too.

Build the houses and take time over "Landscaping" the "Village Green" bugger spending money for the benefit of the prats that ruined it for us? Or is there the possibility of returning it to it's original use and dumping rubbish on it again. Or I suggest all and sundry take their Dogs for walks on it. How about a sponsored Bristol City dog walking 24 hour marathon. Pick up the s***? I think not.

IF this proves to be right I can see only
one reason for SL doing it. If he has been
tipped off that the inspectors review will
register the whole site as a VGA then he
might want to cancel the enquiry due next
month. It will leave the possibility of houses
on half the site and save on his costs. AG
isn't gonna take us to the next level but it
is at least possible to do quickly and give
us a modern stadium with better facilities.
