"But it is believed it would entail plans for a new stadium at Ashton Vale to be abandoned, with housing the most likely development on the site."

Would be pretty hilarious if the planned housing estate turned into some gangland drug haven!

Not surprised by this announcement - let's face it when the club started talking about alternative plans to redevelop Ashton Gate the writing was on the wall.

    Negatives on this:-
    The Council have been weak
    The Club has been naïve
Existing legislation has been misused and shown to be poor (Town and Village Green thing)
Self interest of a minority has won
Bristol appears to not want to move with the times and discourages inward investment
    Potential for job creation lost
We have wasted time and money

Right - now let's move on - let's get behind the club and redevelop/modernise Ashton Gate (retaining it's history) to be a ground that we are proud of

We are only being told this is a deal, nothing official has been announced, so who knows what is really happening, as the old saying goes, ' there's never smoke without fire'..

This doesn't make any sense to me??

For the sake of waiting one month now? If we lose we go back to plan B. it wont affect the planning for a new Ashton Gate and if their 'new evidence' is as good as we have been led to believe we may win?

How has the council been weak when they put money into supporting ashton vale and did not open up sales of land to open tender? Everything else is out of their hands. The council has been anything but impartial.

Apart from city fans and the council Ashton Vale is a non issue and I am in South Bristol. No obvious majority wanting that stadium t.here. Bristol wants a new stadium posters were barely visible even in BS3.

Why would it be hilarious Ciyy fans and the elderly live round there?

This is the type of **** that has lost the club support even in BS3. Club is seen by too many as bullies and supported by them.

Point taken - perhaps more accurately the voters have been apathetic (22% turn out) which allows people to be elected who (from afar) seem to consistently make bad decisions

I do not think it is apathy. Protecting the green built in that area is a big issue, which is why there are so many pro green belt councillors. That issue stretches out from BS3 into Long Ashton and North Somerset. People do not buy all the claims about employment and how good it would be for the area. There were also obvious negatives.

Rubbish some of the protestors were saying they could build a hospital, factory anything but a football stadium how does that equate with protecting the green belt. The area had been a tip but I suppose that was better than the thought of a football stadium plus where do the protestors get the idea that the land owner has to pay to turn the land into a village green and be responsable for any injuries that occur on the old tip site if you read all the crap they produced this was what it boiled down to they want a nice Village green to increase the value of their houses but someone else ie Mr Lansdown has to pay for their enjoyment and increased house prices if I was him I would find the biggest traveller site in the country and offer the land to them at a reasonable price they will pay for land.

I posted facts. Check the stance of long ashton parish council for instance. Many want no development in the area as it will create a domino effect on green spaces and the whole area becomes a built on extension of Bristol. It about more than one site much more. Long ashton council itself have looked at purchasing land to ring fence the village with green space.

If it was all crap if they were idiots Mr Lansdowns lawyers would not have allowed them to got this far.

Of course people want to protect their houses and their prices. That is quite normal.

Travellers camp wow some of these people are in the eighties and served in the services. The tone on here is a disgrace. One is my mates mrs mother and she was frightened to speak because of fear of what fans would do. Makes you proud that.
