He is changing the way so called professional footballers treat our club. They have had far too much say in what goes on at my club. Even if he fails in the league, I for one will be grateful he changed the mentality behind the scenes at SAFC!
In my opinion, part of our problem for years now has been a mixture of the lack of vocal support when things are not going our way and also a sizeable section going as far as getting on the teams/managers back when things are not going our way..Until we have unity and backing from the supporters, we will never have success.. No sitting on the fence from me as I'm backing Paolo, just as I backed O'Neil and Bruce..
Sorry mate to me it is completely the other way round. Unity and backing follows success. To blame the supporters for Sunderland's lack of success is to me a bit disingenuous, we have one of the most loyal followings in the country.
I think our home form of recent seasons goes a long way to proving your point. Fans treatment of Ji represented a new low for me. Newcastle have the same problem with fans, maybe it's a Northeast thing of misdirected passion. But as you say, it is just part of the problem. The main problem with the club for me is the problem that Paolo is trying to tackle. That's the cancerous culture of players behaviour, work rate and all round lack of respect for the club. Now paulo has nipped it in the bud by showing even the star player the door for not living up to the example he should have been setting. I'm confident the focus and drive from coach and players collectively will come together and start producing results. May take this international break, the likelihood is it will take a good few months but one thing is for certain, we'll be better now the internal rot has been removed.
Went with this. Hope he does a SAF and is with us for years cos it'll mean success but I have doubts.
Maybe loyal in turning up for games, but the atmosphere has been very poor in general since the days when Peter Reid was doing well for us.. When Quinn was chairmen he tried his best to highlight how much that support lifted us at the time, and he pleaded for fans to bring that spirit back , but sadly to no avail..
1point out of a possible 9 this season with his team against sides I expect us to be competing with! A win rate of 20% in the league since he joined (know it was MON's team for 7 of those games)! So its a no from me as I've said before I hope he proves me wrong but have a nagging suspicion he won't !
First manager I have wanted since Reid really. I did not want Bruce or MON but I wanted PDC. I read his book years ago and when I did I thought, this guy is fully committed to being a footballer. He took his talent and he made the most of it. He worked hard. He had a very tough upbringing. I think he is the best thing at this football club at this time. We need a new culture. There are a lot of similarities between Peter Reid and PDC. Peter Reid was a hard task master, he made the players work hard and he commanded the up most respect. Reid was very successful at our club, he took us closer to success than anyone else. He was lucky that he found gems in SNQ and Kevin Phillips, but Fletcher and Johnson could be just as good if they play to their potential.
Good one Comm, made me laugh. I think this nutter is gonna end up on the genius side (or at least on the side of success). Think the footy will be quite appealing to the eye as well. He really didn't get much of a budget to work with, so I say give him another window or two. Believe he'll keep us comfortably safe this year, then produce results that will keep SAFC in the top 10 on a regular basis.
Why Gus Poyet,so you would swap a like for like manager, what prem experience does Poyet have? Di Matteo would be a better gamble oh and he's italian.
I have to say Maybe at the minute. I think the guy is a lose cannon, he has a mouth the size of wearmouth and uses it at the least appropriate times. I also think his man management is questionable....but I like his passion for the game and how he has bought into the fans at SAFC. I have said on many occasions, this could either way..at the minute it looks to be going tits up. But he it wouldn't surprise me to see him pull it around..we shall see...hence the "maybe"
I'm not in favour of Sunderland swapping and changing managers every time the supporters demand it ....... we need some stability and a plan.
