With the signing of Fellaini, will our England international play or be on the bench, i hope not, i would play him against Crystal Palace and give Carrick a rest, the Fellaini-Cleverley partnership has the potential to be a good one. I'm sure Moyes is a fan of him, i think he'll be on the bench for most of the time in my opinion.
Not IMO it does. Maybe he can replace Carrick from time to time as you say to give him a rest but Cleverley has under performed recently. Needs massive kick up the arse. Sort of feels watching him, does he believe he's made it and has no need to try?
Different type of DM but yes could do a role in front of the back four. Seriously though Cleverley needs to up his game for if the club wises up in Jan and next summer and learns how to actually buy players, I'd imagine young Tom's opportunities in the first team will be greatly diminished by new CM arrivals.
What so the reason we are looking to buy new CM's is so the club can diminish Tom's first team opportunities? I think the motivation for trying to obtain new CM's is a little less nefarious.
Cleverly has probably suffered from a lack of competion, now he isnt the only real CM who isnt either old, Carrick or always injured. With fellaini in the mix maybe tom will up his game some more
Cleverly is a simple tidy player, that's all. He needs to reinvent himself if he wants to get in the team.
Cleverly is very overrated in my opinion and is only been playing because of the lack of quality in your midfield. Once you buy the calibre of players that Moyes wanted in the summer, the likes of Cleverly and Anderson will be gone
It was always goiing to be difficult for Moyes to sign a world class midfielder because a lot of these type of players prefer to play for a manager with a big reputation, which Moyes will have to build up this season, and if utd were to finish in the top four and win a trophy as well, there will be a much higher chance of getting his targeted players. Having said that, for him to be successful, the first thing he has to do is drop cleverley. I was not too keen on Fellaini b ecause i don't see him as suiting utd's style of play, but having now bought him, he is a huge upgrade on Cleverley because he has a high % passing rate and even though most are sideways and backward passes, Cleverley is even worse, all he does is pass backwards and when he receives the ball he looks so terrified of receiving it and and is always looking to pass it very quickly. All great passers always have a vision of what they are going to do before they receive the ball, with cleverley his vision is to get the ball to de gea, ferdinand or vidic as quickly as he can. Anderson for his price tag and reputation when he was bought has been a major disappointment at utd, but the one thing I will give him is that he is not scared of the ball and always looks to do something positive when he receives it even though it does not always come off and he is the only central midfielder at utd that can run with the ball and always attempts forward passes and for me on his worst day, i will still play him ahead of cleverley. I actually used to like cleverley but it seems that since that kevin davies tackle at bolton , he has never been the same
Cleverley was lauded as the new great hope for Utd and England. Whilst he has done well for England from the reports I have read, he hasn't come close to being the creative spark or midfielder Utd fans had been hoping for. He may well reach (if he hasn't already) his potential. Funny thing is if he wasn't playing for Utd I doubt he would be playing for England.
Have to say I agree. Cleverly made a great start for us in that 11/12 season. We were playing superb freeflowing football, and Cleverly was a huge part of it mainly because he is made for that type of football, short passes, pass and go type. And he has excelled time and again for England against weak opponents. So, against trickier, more physical and even superior opponents, we've never seen Cleverly doing well. So it seems, it is his association with United, playing with better players like Rooney, vanPersie, Carrick, Vidic and co., well basically, fame by association. Obviously, not to ignore or overlook his work ethic and effort.
