Gareth Bale: Michael Laudrup says Real Madrid forward needs time. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23962523 Former Barcelona and Real Madrid star Michael Laudrup says the critics have to be patient with the Wales forward. "I really hope they will give him time to adapt because he is a great player," said Swansea City manager Laudrup. Laudrup says Bale will have to get used to having less space in La Liga playing for Real than he used to in the Premier League. "He has the qualities to succeed but it's the whole package. If you learn the language it's easier to adapt to life in general." So, one of the best players of the past says 'one of the world's best players' has to be given time to adapt to a new home, culture, system, language etc. Makes me wonder why some Sunderland supporters can't seem to apply that logic to our new signings. Just a thought.
Ronaldo & Messi aren't Spanish are they ...... might be wrong. Whatever, the same rule applies .... players need a little time to get to grips with things. It's like a new 'first day at work' for any of us, ****e. "We're all mad here but you'll get used to us." Yeah, just **** off mate.
I believe Messi does have a spanish passport, as he went to Barca at 13 or so. Ronaldo no, but he was brought up just accross the border in Portugal so is used to the weather and the culture of Spain (if not the language). I dont think Bale will be an instant success there, and he will need some time, weather he gets that time is a different matter though.
I suppose that's my point mate ... we can't really expect our new lads just to get off to a flier in a few weeks of being here.
yeah when i replied to you Ronaldo & Messi aren't Spanish are they ...... might be wrong. that was the only line in your post for some reason, after i replied the rest showed up. It happens all the time though, Gyan didnt get straight in, Welbeck did and there was hell on here, Why play a loan player when one of ours is on the bench, by xmas members wanted Welbeck in regardless of Gyan or Bent. there are probably numerous others, unless they are truly world class, which i do not think Bale is yet, very good yes, world class not quite.
Spanish is spoken in Argentina, granted its Mexican or "dirty" Spanish still the same thing, Portuguese is just about the same as Spanish makes no odds. Culture is very very similar also
All very interesting but none of that actually applies to Bale does it? BTW, Portuguese is not like Spanish and the culture is totally different, the Portuguese generally hate the Spanish, in my experience. I can speak Spanish but can't get to grips with Portuguese despite having a girlfriend from there.
hahaha no it doesn't if im honest i didn't read any of it. Just felt like sticking me beak in, and you did bring Messi and Ronaldo up. Asking if they were Spanish. A few of my Brazilian mates can get buy in Spanish maybe as Portugese is their native language, and Mexican Spanish is a "Dirty" spanish
My sister lived in brazil for years, she's fluent in portuguese and spanish. ****ing show off. The Brazilians taught her how to throw a proper BBQ and she passed her wisdom on to me.
Could always try and take on the bulls. 1 head, 4 legs, a tail. Surely not much difference. Bit like the Spanish and Portugese lingo........
Random I know but Bale only cost 10 times more than Wickham. Doesn't sound that much when you are talking Real Madrid and Sunderland. The difference is Bale is 100 times the player Wickham will ever be. I gave a shout out for Bale when he was a young left back. The lad has improved every year without fail. I would be very surprised if Bale doesn't slot in immediately. After all they haven't paid all that cash out for a "prospect". They have bought a player who can change a game single handedly. We aren't buying world class players we are buying and loaning run of the mill players, who do need time to adapt and fit in.
I'm not talking about Wickham, it's the foreign players who some Sunderland supporters judge by their first kick of a ball. If a man like Michael Laudrup is saying Bale will need time then I think his opinion is worth listening to. After all this is an intelligent man who's worked in different countries and been through the same experience as Bale and our new players. He's had to adapt to different cultures & languages and believes Bale will need time. I's think all players need, and should be given, a little time to settle. It's no different to the first day at work for any of us, just think back to how strange everything is even if the old job is virtually identical to the new one.
