Bristol City Football Club totally condemns the actions of spectators who invaded the pitch at the conclusion of last night’s game with Bristol Rovers at Ashton Gate. The joy of winning the first competitive Bristol derby in six-and-a-half years should have been remembered for all the right reasons. Instead, actions from the minority of the near 18,000 crowd has thrust the club into the national media’s eye for the wrong reasons. This sort of behaviour is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. We believe strongly Bristol City is a family friendly club, which is safe for supporters of all ages. We will be working closely with the Police and authorities, including the use of CCTV and imagery, to help identify those involved. Bristol City Football Club will take the strongest possible action against anyone found guilty of violent conduct – for the club, our supporters and the city of Bristol. I'd be happy to have them ban EVERY single person who went on the pitch last night but you know that they will struggle to get in to double figures on the banning orders for the city supporters as it will be a case of too many man hours to go through all the cctv and paper work and try to identify everyone. The club does not have a great name in teh football world when you speak to other fans at other clubs and last night does not help us.
I posted on this yesterday and got labelled a pussy. My son is at uni in Wycombe studying to be a copper. Part of his studies involves football match policing. According to his study research Bristol City are the 6th worst set of fans in the United Kingdom because of their reputation for violence. Interestingly enough it's not Cardiff or Millwall at the top - it's Man Utd Stats based on the number of arrests per game per club per head count.
300 Damaged Seats it just said on radio Bristol probably from the away end, let's hope we send the bill to the right people.
I was wondering what the clubs response would be. The Eastend has had six years of restrictions. Will the other stands now enjoy the same treatment?
yep. agree with that hopefully they can identify those who got on the pitch to get to the rovers fans. if they didnt let your club down and let down the majority of your fan base by getting on the pitch as they did, then i doubt very much that these 300 or so seats would have been damaged. instead your fans could have celebrated and applauded your players for the win and our fans would have applauded our players efforts and then we all be discussing the game and all the positives. instead however were all talking about the negatives on how a minority of fans on both sides have let our clubs down.
We're talking about it because people refuse to stop talking about it! The trouble has been blown out of proportion by the media. If you don't want it to ruin the game then please, Just drop it....
If you watch this video long enough you see seats being thrown from the left at the pitch amongst other things...
think you missed the point of my comment. plus the game was yesterday and was already ruined im afraid the subject wont just go away no matter how much you or me want it. not until some have been brought to justice. it will be in the press until then unfortunately and the f.a are involved now. i agree though, the media have had a real orgy about this. watched the news just now on points west. it had an elderly city fan cleaning up in the dolman stand talking about that he could see what was going to happen with all the city fans who were at the front of the dolman stand. this elderly man was then picking up broken parts from seats in the dolman stand and broken parts from advertisement boards. so dont look like just seats in the away end that have been damaged. i guess the majority is though.
I was at the game and saw bottles and coins being thrown at the rovers fans. What struck me most was that there were kids of 8,9 and 10 in the crowd and yet I'm reading is the excuse brigade ( those with low IQ ) saying it was blown out of proportion. What if the shoe was on the other foot and your son/daughter was injured by a coin or bottle, would you be so quick to defend. It's a shame as I've watched city a lot over the years being a native since 1981 and I was thinking what a good team this could be, some real talent. Then the morons took over so the team didn't even get the applause they deserved.
and if you turn your sound on and listen you will hear rovers fans say that coins amongst other things were being thrown at them by the city lot on the pitch. again none of this should have happened if the stewards and police did their jobs properly. of course there would always be trouble. it happens. but even city fans are admitting that not enough was done to stop those who got on the pitch from the dolman. all of this could and should have been avoided. by the way wiz and the rest of you reds on here, i have said this on our board but not had the chance to say this on your board to you lot, well done last night, better team won. no way you will be relegated and i be surprised if you dont come top 10. it was a good game and im glad the ref didnt ruin it. thought the ref was decent. best ref i seen in ages! well done again
great comment loomo i dont get all the bickering to be honest on this site. think we all (both sets of fans) should be in unison here. it was a good game. the better team won and rovers put up a good effort and made a game of it. both sets of fans have twats as fans who ruin it for the rest of us. both sets of twats are as bad as each other. the police and stewards didnt do enough and was promoting zero tolerance but wasnt at all prepared to follow through with their warning. instead of all agreeing with the obvious, some seem to prefer to point score blaming others thinking their club is whiter than white.
I'm actually a qpr fan who has lived in bristol for 32 years and gone to watch city many times, occasionally in the away end when rangers came to town, so I was trying to put a neutral position on it. The club could have done more as you could see it coming. I thought an announcement on 90 minutes with the threat of a ban or prosecution may have deterred some. Not enough stewards as well
"the majority of your fan base by getting on the pitch as they did, then i doubt very much that these 300 or so seats would have been damaged" Here he goes again.. "majority" ?? Perhaps if your fans hadn't stormed towards the williams after we scored our first goal, the fans may not have invaded the pitch?? No excuses and stop twisting things around to suit your agenda.. the bill for the seats should go to the people who ripped them out.. your fans -- hence your club.!
A couple hundred fans waving their arms about constitutes the need for a club statement? I hope we see one from the visitors in that case, as racism and coining ball boys is far worse in my book.
Plus the fact, the riot police was held up in their end preventing their actions to get into place at the end.
you are the one twisting things. you have quoted me above but selected only part of the quote to make me look bad. here is the full quote: "if they didnt let your club down and let down the majority of your fan base by getting on the pitch as they did, then i doubt very much that these 300 or so seats would have been damaged." you see, i said about those who got on the pitch, if they didnt let your club down and let down the majority of your fan base by getting on the pitch...... NOT once have i said anywhere that the reds who caused trouble were the majority. they are the minority. so stop twisting my words and cut the crap out to make me look bad accusing me of things when its clear in black and white for all to see. maybe read the whole thing 1st. bbc news points west last night showed broken seats in the dolman as well as i said in an earlier post in this thread. anyone who caused any damage who pay which counts for your fans too for break seats and advertisment boards and damage to the pitch. maybe a new corner flag after a mindless twat used it as a spear chucking it in the rovers end where there are kids and women etc. BOTH SETS OF FANS HAVE TWATS. NOT JUST US AND NOT JUST YOU. all im saying is, a lot of damage could have been avoided if there was no pitch invasion. police and stewards were so under prepared and we all could it was going to happen. why didnt they. the police made a statement yesterday passing the buck to your stewards and club. i wasnt happy with their statement.
