Alright Peeps, The word on da street is that Billy Sharp is on his way to Elland Road on loan. The 27 year old striker, currently playing at Southampton cannot get a look in; not surprisingly really, when you consider how much cash Southampton have spent in recent times. It really does show the gulf between the divisions when Sharp, who has to be seen as a top Championship striker cannot get a look in, in the Prem. The other player Leeds have been heavily linked with in the loan market is Birminghams winger Chris Burke, who according to reports is due to join Leeds on loan when the loan window opens on Sunday. Why didn't Leeds snap him up for 600k. Well, read this...... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Leeds United boss Brian McDermott has revealed he made an enquiry regarding a wing target on deadline day â only for the £600,000 asking price to put him off. McDermott is keen on landing a new winger to boost his attacking options and is believed to have enquired about signing Birminghamâs Chris Burke, 29, on Monday, according to Midlands sources. But the fee offered no value for McDermott, mindful of the age of the player and the fact he is out of contract in June. Ironically, former United chief Neil Warnock tried to sign Burke on the last day of the winter window in January, only for the move to fall through. McDermott said: âWe made an enquiry for a wide player who is 30 (sic) years of age and they wanted 600 grand for him. It didnât make sense to me. âItâs got to make sense and be financially right as well as the right player. In eight monthsâ time, heâll be a free transfer.â --------------------------------------------------------------------- Its not going to be long til Byram is fit, and back in the team, and when he does how do you see the team lining up. The prospect of Byram, Warnock, Wootton and either Lees or Peace sounds like a pretty good defence to me, but what about Peltier. We paid 700k for him just over a year ago. Seems a waste. Would anyone like to see Byram starting in midfield?
Morning!! Nice detective work ... we get Sharp and Burke and we'll be looking pretty good Byram is a superb right back, much better there than Peltier ... keep goals out and we go up.
Morning Elland. Billy Sharp up top with (perm any one from 4 assuming Rosss retains the free role at the head of the diamond) looks a good move. I also agree with BMD. Why pay a club £600k now when he'll sign for free in the summer or we can get him on loan until then in a few days. We sank like a stone in the living the dream era. Papa Smurf put in a lot of financial stability. GFH are now continuing that process, albeit putting more money into the team than was the case under Bates. All in all, a good plan. On Byram, I really would like to see him at RM (not RW, he isn't quick enough), but right side of midfield in the diamond formation. So we'd have Austin at the base, Warnock or Mowatt ff the bench on the left, McCormack in the free role at the head, with Diouf off the bench, and Byram on the right. Starting to look a good midfield, albeit one that lacks a genuine winger, and as such, genuine width. That said, maybe BMD is waiting for the right type of winger at the right price to come along. And to answer yur final question, I think Peltier should remain at RB. The back 4 are doing okay, so why change things?
Morning all. It was mentioned on a thread yesterday by Kwini I think who said lets see how much cash the blades have now? Billy Sharpe is a blade and if they have cash and ambition they may go for him. I hope we get him, but could see him at Forest or Reading. I think BMD will put Sam in midfield because of something he said a few weeks ago. he was bigging Sam up by saying that he was surprised and exited about how much composure and skill the young kid has. he said he can play almost anywhere in defence or midfeild and even up top because he's that good. So if he's capable of providing that composure, skill etc, then we have a ready made solution without really hurting the team as Pelts is playing well. Be a nice experiment to have against the bar-codes?
Morning I posted in may about billy sharp I think he would have already been signed if we had the money but as with burke if b mcd can get them in on the cheap then thats good business. As for goals they will come when the strikers get fed some decent crosses to get on to. Mot
Morning all - If we get these two players on loan you can scrap the Diamond it will be Byram one side and Burke the other. Personally I can't see us getting Sharp but you never know... It would be a strange situation, the up and coming Poleon on the bench, Ross and Sharp starting but who misses out Hunt, Diouff or Smith not to mention we still have Morrison on the books
Never seen Burke played on the left before, only ever seen him on the right and thats not to say that he wouldn't be able to though. Personally if he was to sign I think he would play Varney on the left with Burke on the right, Austin and Murphy in the middle with Ross and Hunt up front or Sharp if we signed him. He seems to like Varney by the looks of it anyway
Alright Boggers, Interesting you'd keep Peltier at right back. Saying that, if we were offered 500k for him, I'd take it
I was thinking the same - Only scenario I can imagine is that the emergency loan is around a 3 month period, it would mean Brum could get him back for the January window and hope to get something for him then, highly unlikely though and they seem to have cut off their nose to spite their faces on this one.
Maybe they just want him off the wage bill ? We will know soon enough I guess. On another note how do I change my username ?
Although his contract is up in the Summer. If he is worth 600k now, he'll be worth 400k in January, surely?
I notice Birmingham did bring in Caddis on deadline day, so perhaps they need to offload someone from the wage bill to compensate? I don't know how dire their financial situation is. I'd be surprised (though delighted) if we managed to bring Burke in before January now.
Chris Burke as BMD stated is 30 and Birmingham want £600k for a 30-year old who is out of contract in the summer. So there's no way he's worth anywhere near the money they want. We may have paid £200k max but as Burke is costing Birmingham abetween £0.5m and £0.75m per year when they have financial problems, means they need him off the books and their gamble didn't pay off. He may be released on loan until his contract runs out. If Birmingham were serious about cashing in on Burke, they should have given him a new contract, they didn't so they can't expect cash ....
I believe we offered 300k for him .Brum need the cash as Carson Yeung is under investigation FOR money laundering so I hardly think they will take much persuasion. We will probably have to unload White for the loan deal to get done. Billy Sharp will only get goals with service that means wingers .I think Byram could be the next Gareth Bale yes you can all laugh but Bale hasn't had it easy Rednapp tried to sell him to Brum for £3m because he was a Jonah having played his first 21 games and not been on a winning team. The lad has got everything to be a great player lets hope he is not injury prone .I can see him playing for his country .Now I will take some flack for this but he who dares wins!
60, I agree with you, but I offer Byram a higher accolade than being compared to Bale. I think he could be our new Madeley, a term I do not use lightly. EDIT: Oops! Morning all - not used to being about this early!
