The Daily Mail says Fulham were convinced that now-departed manager Hughes was going to sign a new contract when he bought a seven-figure west London property before Christmas. His Georgian mansion, not far from Chelsea's King's Road, will certainly be handily located if he ever gets the call from Stamford Bridge. Hughes is being linked with the job at Chelsea.
I´m a bit tired of Hiddink seemingly faffing around a bit in connection to the Chelsea job. If Hiddink really wanted the Chelsea job wouldn´t this have been tied up by now ? It seems that Hiddink is unsure and that concerns me. I want a manager who really wants the job, not a manager that needs to be convinced to take the job. Hughes has stated he´d love the the Chelsea job and for that reason I´m warming to the idea of Sparky takining charge.
Lets face facts the russian maffia appoints, even they are now getting very touchy now that Blair and his lackeys are not around, for solace and protection.
To be fair to Guus, I'm sure he is/was waiting to get the Belgium game out of the way which for me shows great respect for the job he is doing which is surely a good sign. I'm certain he will have signed within the next couple of weeks. If sparky wants to be assistant that is fine with me, learn the trade from a master. Not overly sold on sparky as first team manager yet though.
I think that Sparky could do a job at Chelsea. People say that he didn´t do so well at City but he wasn´t given enough time. Sparky is a former Chelsea man with a genuine feeling for the club. For me that´s important. Also Hughes has a good record in management, over-achieving with Wales and Blackburn and doing a solid job at Fulham. If you ask any Fulham fan I´m sure they´re absolutely gutted he´s left. I think if Hughes was given our squad to choose from he would do well and he wouldn´t stand for any players not putting in a shift which is something we´ve seen too often from some of our players this season.
Anyone who feels Hiddink is to old should look at Fergie - 70 and four out of the last five Prem titles, three champs league finals out of the last four, with one win...he will be good for us as he takes no **** and is tactically spot on. It possibly will be a temporary position given the Guardiola/ Villa-Boas situations, but even if he was there for a few years I reckon it wouldn't do us any harm. Hughes...he has no feeling or affinity for the club, as demonstrated in the way he shamelessly and publicy tried to get our captain to join City. He can **** right off.
I hear what you´re saying and I wasn´t at all happy about Hughes trying to get Terry to join City. Having said that can you blame Hughes ? At City he had an open chequebook and he wanted to buy the world´s best centre back when he tried to sign JT. Regarding Hiddink I think he would be a good Chelsea manager for a season or two but he wouldn´t stay much longer than that. Fergie still managing Utd at the age of 70 is a freak as far as I´m concerned and not something we should be looking to replicate at Chelsea. In my opinion we need a younger man in charge and we´ve always had success at Chelsea with younger managers - Gullit, Vialli, Mourinho. For that reason I think we should do everything we can to entice Villas-Boas to Chelsea. Whether this summer or next. If Hiddink is the stop-gap to bringing in Villas-Boas then I´m happy with that.
