Yeah I always liked Micky Adams. Nicky Banger too, I remember seeing him score a hat trick for the reserves.
Got to be Dan Harding of the recent players. "Chicken" George Lawrence would be one from the past, just for his ability to beat 3 men, run down to the byline, and stuff his cross over the back wall of the Archers. Manny Andruzuski would be another from the past, wasnt very good, but Saints would get him to man mark the oppositions danger man out of the game.
Michael Svensson - a warrior at the back, didn't back out of a challenge aptly nicknamed the killer. He stuck out for me because of the passion and desire he showed when trying to comeback after his injury.
I always wanted bialkowski to be given a chance but was sadly not good enough in the end. I cant really think of too many others that were unusual to like. Stern john and idiakez just for avoiding relegation
Are people missing the point of people who weren't great players or fan favourites? I'm pretty sure the likes of Michael Svensson and Antti Niemi were both great and fan favourites, so not exactly what the thread is looking for.
A friend of mine knows Telfer well. Apparently the man actually couldn't give two ****s about football, and is often non-plussed when engaged in conversation about it. He is, however, mad, mad, mad on golf. Good man.
Frankie Bennett as well, I watched a few of the free reserve matches at the Dell when I was younger and he always stood out to my young eyes. He was quick, tricky, provided assists and scored a few goals, really thought he would make the step up!
For about half a season, Simon Gillet. I think it was the second half of the 08/09 season when we were about to be relegated from the Championship, and he always looked like one of the players who gave his all, even playing on with injury on one occasion if I recall correctly. Of course after that, he feel out of favour and went off to new pastures. I'll also second Bialkowski and Harding, who have been mentioned a couple of times earlier in the thread. Of the current group, for some reason I have a strange affinity with Manny Mayuka...dunno why. I always have a strange fetish for players from unfashionable footballing nations, so to speak. And of course, Steven Davis, being from my hometown and even going to the same school as me. I could never hate him.
