that's what I was thinking LIE, if he doesn't calm down he's gonna shoot his load, then Fellaini joins scum and he could hardly contain himself... the twat
Fellaini to scum is the worst kept secret of the summer. Only reason it's exciting is because he's exactly the opposite of the type of player they actually need and they are likely to do badly this season. I really hope they draw/lose against Palace, as their fans will go into a panic and a frenzy. Would love to see them drop out of Europe entirely and struggle to find their way back in, a la Liverpool.
They pay best part of 30m for a bloke who should be in the jackson five. Reckon every fan in football wants them to fail,I pmsl when they lost against the scousers. Moyes can't hack it. I wish them the worst.
The way they complain about how they might not win a trophy this season is just absolutely astounding. The majority of football fans will NEVER see their team win a trophy. Ever. And they have the gaul to complain that they might not hold onto the title this season. No humility, no saying "well we won it last season, it's no big deal if we don't win it this season", especially after a change in manager.
Personally, I would like to think I'm normally a bit of an optimist and have been regarding GFH. But, I would say I'm a little disappointed by the transfer window. Wootton, to me anyway looks like our best signing. I know I have only seen him in 1 game so far and only seen a few highlights of the other game he was in, he looks entirely calm and very switched on. Seems that he will improve the defence immeasurably. Murphy, so far has done ok. He did very well against Brighton but since hasn't really stuck out like I thought he would. I don't think we would've done worse in those games had someone like Tonge been playing instead of him which on the face of it seems harsh but he hasn't really added too much creativity in the middle and I'm not entirely blaming him for it as I think the formation that McD has picked doesn't seem to suit a lot of players in the team and he is one of them. Hunt, I've gotta be honest. I was a little held back when this signing was announced and didn't really get too excited because I've always thought of him as an ok player but nothing more. He seemed to show some worth in pre-season though so I thought maybe he would do better than I initially thought. So far though he has been pretty terrible, ineffective in all games he has played which is very dissapointing. Hope he does do better but at the moment I wouldn't regard him as a good signing. Smith, he looks like he should be more effective than he is. Admittedly he has already been involved in a few goals but he doesn't seem to jump which is strange, given the fact he is so big you would really expect him to really go for balls and attack them properly but from what I have seen he doesn't. He also doesn't seem to be fantastic on the deck which you wouldn't expect in fairness from a player that hasn't been in the game too long and whos main threat is in the air. Again though, our formation really doesn't suit him. So all in all we are still waiting for all the signings to show why they were bought still, maybe to the exception of wootton but I still expect him to continue to improve. We have bought young which is good and hopefully we can build around the young signings we have made to make a really good squad but I really doubt much will happen this season without width. Maybe I'm overly critical of the formation McD is playing and the lack of wingers as I love watching teams who have a lot of pace out wide and really spread there formation to trouble defences, when your tight it seems that your always looking for a killer pass which to me becomes too predictable and limits the amount of options you have to attack the defence.
It's clear we have made some progress with gfh but the next major step will not be possible under them but with someone with clout. The sooner they move out the better and let a major player finish the rebuilding the better. Personally, I'm glad they came in when they did but won't be one bit sorry when they ure gone providing we get someone better
This is another view I hate. I'm not targeting you but this view that we require a billionaire to get out of this league is so false and I hate the thought of it. How many teams get out of this league without that help. Cardiff spent a fair whack last season but Hull didn't spend as much as we did last summer yet they finished 2nd, Palace didn't spend big either. The season before both Reading and Southampton got promoted without spending big, West Ham that year were the big spenders yet they didn't get up through autos. What about the likes of Leicester and Blackburn, Leicester have spent big for a few years now and still haven't managed success and Blackburn spent big last season without success, even Wolves spent a decent amount and ended up getting relegated. Go back even a season before and of the three teams QPR spent the most but that was still before their big investment with both Norwich and Swansea going up alongside them having really spent very little. And in fact lets look more closely at the teams that have gone up on a budget, in recent years, of the teams promoted the most successful are probably Norwich, Swansea and Southampton and all went up on a budget compared to the likes of QPR who spent huge and failed. There are so many examples of teams going up without huge investment and teams failing to achieve promotion with huge investment. Just because QPR have started well and spent big doesn't mean they are going to go up. The thing that gets you up is wise honest spending with good team building and strong, flexible tactics and in truth that little bit of luck. I think McD can and will achieve this if we do not get this ridiculous investment that so many fans call for and imo is what is wrong with the game. Everyone wants to buy their success because they think it is the only way when it really isn't.
Those clubs werent raped and stripped of all assets over a ten year period like we were. We are starting at a far lower point than those promoted clubs did with paying daft ground rent and our season ticket money flushed down the toilet. Like it or not, it will take serious money to put Leeds right. 12 m for ground, another few miliion for the wingers were all crying out for and more loot to plug remaining holes left by Bates. If its to be done on this shoestring nonsense wet are presently on, well still be having this discussion in ten years. Of course money doesnt guarantee promotion, Im not suggesting that but it would sure as hell improve our position
This is a limiting belief brought on by 8 years of batesonomics. You think without major investment we can't compete. I should remind you that this club turns over £30 million a year. We only can't spend it on players because it's tied up servicing pointless loans, paying for building work and making sure ken doesn't have to fly EasyJet. Give it a few years and you will see. Remember that next season we'll have an extra £3.5 million to spend from season ticket sales. It all adds up.
Why on earth would it take serious money to put us right? The money committed to side projects isn't a permanent thing, clear it all out and the turnover we make is more than enough to outbid anyone in this league. You're forgetting that with or without a billionaire owner, FFP still limits what we can spend. All our money is tied up, that's the only problem. Free up that money, which GFH are doing quite wonderfully, and we will have a lot more bargaining power. Also, has anybody else noticed that the last accounts reported a total wage bill for all staff at £16.5 million a year, yet recent reports have us at £15 million? That's a big cut of £1.5 million. Imagine that's Harvey's salary, Yorkshire Radio staff, the salary that ken "wasn't taking"?
I disagree, it will only take serious money to put us right if the club are idiots when it comes to handling the finances which from the face it if anyway it doesn't look like GFH are. Yes it will take patience (although it would even with heavy investment as well anyway) but there is no reason why it can't be done. And I think you'll find that southampton were on a pretty big low when there upturn started as well, pretty close to the relegation zone in league 1 with little sight of improvement.
Look ... we all want investment to bring in quality. However, this is the first summer in a long time that we haven't SOLD players. Think ... if we kept the likes of Howson, Gradel, Snodgrass, Johnson, Beckford ... made proper use of loanees like Livermore, Barkley, Bannan, Townsend ... Bates and his awful managers did major damage to our club. McD is arguably our best manager since Wilko, I trust him and he's done well with what's available financially and in his squad. Believe ... if he gets a couple more in (Sharp & Burke) we'll be a real threat THIS season. MOT!!!!
Just speaking to a mate of mine about GFH and how looking at the positives it was a good transfer window in comparison to previous seasons, I tried to get him to join here but he isn't into forums but his opinion of GFH and he as a point: Are we moving quick enough, are we accepting minor things like the sale of Yorkshire Radio and a total spend of under £2m on transfers in two transfer windows as acceptable? Most of us accept we are not good enough to go up this season, what if we don't and despite our joy of coming through a transfer window stronger for a change we end up selling Byram at Christmas. I have to say on reflection I could be a glass half full but I am going to be half empty, to think GFH have stopped just short of giving the manager the funds he needs to make a real difference, is it really worth half doing a job as GFH seem to have done the bare minimum required IMHO How many weeks ago did the board tell us funding was in place to get the manager at least two transfer targets, they talk the talk alright
I'm three-quarters full at the moment. I look at what the rest did, and it was naff all, other than those clubs that came down from the Prem. I want us to build from within, I want kids to play, and I want to build a team and a way of playing over a longer timeframe, like Swansea have done. Throwing money at it like Blackburn or Leicester with "this season we are really going for it" attitude is a fools game. Let's get the foundations right - only buy the players we really want and can afford, only loan the players we really want and can afford, unload those we can unload (impossible to do if they are happy to sit there and do nowt with a contract that was signed by the previous owners). I say - stop slagging off the new owners for things they have no control over, and focus on what they can do within the boundaries they have to live within. It's so much better than the recent past, and in McD I believe we have someone with a plan for takign us forward one step at a time. Onward March.
They have control over virtually everything I have complained about. They authorised the sale of Becchio, the signing of Morrison, the loaning out of that said same player and the media frenzy that they built up around Ross and bids coming in for him. If they hadn't the funds to support the manager with another target or two then keep stump about it, don't declare to the fans they are ready to sign two new players. I can't help feel they (GFH) are playing the fans, Ross signing an extension to his contract should not have been the highlight of the transfer window, GFH played us making us feel it was like signing a new player. Ross had two years to run on his contract, we were never in danger of losing him UNLESS GFH wanted to sell and why did Boro keep on coming back - Answer because they were lead to believe for the right price.... Your final words hit the nail on the head "It's so much better than the recent past" and that is the crux of it, Bates was so bad ANYTHING is better and we are willing to accept things now we would never have accepted a few years ago. I don't disagree with you Sheldon on what you would like to see and GFH being better than Bates but then being better than Bates isn't exactly hard is it?
