03 September 2013 8:30 | By Chris Young FABIO BORINI says Liverpoolâs ex-Sunderland contingent endorsed his decision to join the Black Cats. Striker Borini was one of two Italian internationals to arrive at the Stadium of Light before last nightâs transfer deadline, with left-back Andrea Dossena also agreeing terms with Paolo Di Canioâs side. Borini joins on a season-long loan from Liverpool and will replace Stephane Sessegnon in Sunderlandâs attacking arsenal after the Benin international joined West Brom in a £6million deal. The 22-year-old had fallen down the pecking order at Anfield this season and was made available on a temporary basis, despite Liverpool shelling out £10.5million for the former Chelsea youngster just 12 months ago. And after speaking to Liverpoolâs Sunderland old boys Simon Mignolet and Jordan Henderson, Borini was convinced he was right to make the move to Wearside. âI asked them a few things about Sunderland, about the training ground, the fans and where I should live,â said Borini. âThey gave me some advice and obviously Jordan is from Sunderland, so itâs his home. âAnd Simon was really happy for me to come here because he said it would be the right place for me. âIâm really looking forward to it.â Borini admits he needed to play regular first-team football this season after being restricted to just five Premier League starts last year, albeit his campaign was put on ice for three months due to a foot injury. The opportunity to work with Sunderlandâs all-Italian management team also proved appealing for Borini, as he looks to force his way into contention for next summerâs World Cup. âHe (Di Canio) made an important movement for me because he looked for me and really wanted me here at the club,â added Borini to the Sunderland website. âThat showed me the desire from him to get me here to the club. I know the way he plays football so itâs good to be here. âItâs the right place to come and play a good way of football. Working with an Italian manager and an all-Italian staff will hopefully be good for me. âIt feels good to make the move because I was waiting for it. âI was waiting for my chance to play and I needed to play after a season of injuries. âThis was the best option for me. Playing every week is very important for me to get my achievements and goals for the season.â
Not the best signing we could have hoped for but who'd heard of SKP before he joined? Come on Fabio, score goals and you will be worshipped.
