    Hi guys,
    After watching the second half last nite and also the Ghana match its becoming more and more apparent to people that we can actually play reasonable football when lamps gerrard and barry arent ruining the midfield; maybe its time we stopped picking them in the squad and brought through the likes of cleverly and rodwell amongst others. Also long overdue but its time we stopped picking rio and terrry, theyve never been able to play well together we're constantly made to look stupid by the forward lines of poorer teams due to these two and also johnson. I dont know about the rest of you but id rather us play a younger, fresher team and not make the Euro's this time, but giving the team experience, than see thiis current team make the tournament and then crash out in the first knockout round.

    I could not agree with you more! Bring in the kids now and give them 3 years playing together before the next World Cup. I would like to see a team something like this:
    Hart;
    Kelly, Dawson, Cahill, Baines,
    Lennon, Henderson, Willshere, Young;
    Rooney,
    Carroll.

    Certainly, it could not be any worse than the dross we have had to endure over the last decade.

    Not a bad team personally i'd go with something like this though
    Hart
    Kelly Dann/Shawcross Jones Baines
    Johnson Rodwell Wilshere Young
    Rooney
    Sturridge
    Can see the appeal with Carroll he's going to be a great player but i worry that much like liverpool have tended to do when he's played we'll just start playing route 1 football

    I agree the lampards barrys etc should know start to be phased out of the team, so the younger player at least get a chance to show us what they can do.
    The golden generation? What have any of these players achieved at international football to be known as the golden generation?

    Last time we had a golden generation was 1990-1996, we had some real stars back then.

    Forget all this talk of a golden generation, we ain't had one of them since 1966 when we last won something! This current lot just believe that cos they're all millionaires they must be great when they are simply average. I've said it elsewhere but what we need is a fundamental change in English football - more players developing their skills overseas, less emphasis on the PL as it may be entertaining but technically its rubbish... just look at the CL final and some of the top players in the PL - Fabregas can't even get in the Spanish team! Now having done some digging we have about 40 players all under 25 who we could pick a team from that could maybe, just maybe, develop into something that may make it past the first knockout round in WC 2014.. until then, no chance!

    I must of slept through the time of the golden generation.
    I believe England should withdraw from Euro12 and concentrate on the world cup. If we do that we might have a chance in euro 16.
    I really want to see England do well but Capello is just going through the motions until his year is up. England will have to rebuild when cappello leaves.

    The problem with bringing in the kids is that although they have potential they are frankly not better than the seniors. The Germans turned to youth after that old guard like Jens Jeromie had run their course, and replaced them with young players who were at top teams and playing in top positions. Whilst our current crop of top players (Lampard, Gerrard, etc) are still perofming at teh highest level in club football we have to stick with them. How many of the yoots mentioned are playing for top clubs, in the elite competitions, competing for titles AND earning plaudits for their performances? Answer sadly is very few. The likes of Ozil, Meuller etc have been start performers at club level so warranted inclusion in the national sides.

    The real problem is we dont seem to employ coaches/managers who kow how to get the best out of our players. This has been the case for decades, and no one seems to have the answer.

    You're right. We have to wonder why, the furthest they got was a quarter final in 2002 world cup, which we were outplayed in after being gifted a goal, and the sam stage in 2004 Euros, where we were just shocking. Then we played the same opposition in the 2006 world cup, and faired no better. So why do people put these guys on pedestals. At club level, they are fantastic, some have even been nomiated for best player in the world, but at international level, they never seem to cut it

    England will now start to slide down the rankings and become like Scotland

    England being one of the top nations at the moment get an easy ride in qualifying, I mean look at the current group they have. Not one decent team in it. Then look at Scotland's group, they have Czech Republic AND Spain so once England start going down the rankings expect to have it much tougher

    It's an insult to the team that actually won the World Cup in 66 that this group of underachievers get labelled as the 'golden generation'. The tin or copper generation maybe. Having said that, I question whether the new batch will fare any better. I mean individually we looked far stronger 5-10 years ago than we do now without the old guard. Our selection of strikers are the weakest they've been in a while. The quality of central defenders were better back then - Campbell, Ferdinand, King, Carragher. Jagielka, Cahill, Dawson etc....are they any better? For midfielders, who individually is better than Gerrard, Lampard or Scholes? Wilshere maybe?

    Can we expect the new batch to even get further than a QF?

    Terry should be dropped now, and someone left footed shpuld replace him
    Lampard should be dropped too, and Carrick should come in.
    With no Heskey anymore I think Zamora should come in to be a foil for Rooney

    They prove that putting 11 great players together doesn't equal the besst team; rio and terry for example have both been touted as the best Centre halfs in the prem at different times in the last 3/4 years and they have been amazing but they look so shaky and out of tune when they play together. Its time we dropped terry, rio, barry, carrick, lampard, gerrard (would consider him on bench though as hes the only one thats ever really played decent in an england shirt), johnson and possibly even cole and let some of the newer players through as weve got some great talents in the u21's - Cleverly, Albrighton, Rodwell, Jones, Smalling, Johson should play more, walker, loach, alex mcarthy etc.
