if he wasn't a footballer, he would of been a model for sure, what a player, but who will make 4th place arsenal, lfc or spurs
I think we have a better first 11 than both Spurs and Liverpool. I haven't looked at a best 18-man match day squad properly but ours is looking the strongest it has since Fabregas and Nasri left. For Overall squad depth i think Liverpool and Spurs have more numbers and seem to have a lot of solid internationals who will help see them through a season. But i just think considering we finished above both these teams last season, for the first time in a while we haven't lost any key players (whilst spurs have lost Bale), we've added Ozil who is one of the best players in the world and we have a manager who knows what he needs to get from his squad to make sure they are in the top 4, we will finish above both Liverpool and Spurs.
A quote from the great man from the BBC website: "I am thrilled to be joining a club of the stature of Arsenal and am looking forward to playing in the Premier League. I am particularly looking forward to working with [Gunners boss] Arsene Wenger." I think Wenger swayed it (opinion of him probably came via Per and Lukas in the German national squad camp). You must remember he's mindset at that particular moment...feeling unloved by manager and president...hence a supporting manager must have played an important part in his decision.
Of course Wenger would have swayed it. A lot of top quality players have been quoted to want to come to play for Arsene. You can only imagine what it was like for a kid growing up watching Wenger's teams of the past. The invincibles team would have been etched in a lot of peoples minds.
Now, hopefully Mesut has Benzema's number to persuade him to join in January. This signing can only be good for the future.
As was said n the transfer fred.Ozil is the first world class player we have bought since Denis Bergkamp
Always liked this player, but don't think he's the type of player Arsenal needed, what you've needed for a long time is a replacement for Viera, a big def-mid box to box power-house. I think this IS a quality signing though, and will definitely improve your team, he'll also send a message to other top players that Arsenal mean business and havn't become a feeder club for the Manchester sides, which has is what it has looked like for the past few seasons, and they will be more inclined to come to Arsenal than they have been lately. I think 3rd or 4th is the best you can do this season with the squad you have, and maybe a cup, but with Ozil, and the world class players I expect to see arrive next window, given 1/2 a season to gel, I expect to see you challenge for the title next season
http://timhi.wordpress.com/2010/07/13/mezut-ozil-a-in-depth-look-at-his-game/ Here's an interesting look at what he brings to the table. Interesting mention of Theo Walcott in there as well.
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...ng-of-the-summer-with-mesut-ozil-8795447.html The last paragraph of above sums up why a signing of this magnitude was needed.
I agree with this. We made a huge statement in this window and it's made everyone sit up and take notice. It says that Arsenal is back and ready to take on the best!
Well not the position we needed to improve the most, but he will definitely improve the squad with his creativity. Plus, no more **** corner kicks! We have plenty who can head them well, but have suffered since RvP's strong deliveries were replaced by the beach balls served by Walcott/Wilshere/EtCetera. And he's pretty good at free kicks in general.
A truely world class player im amazed we did this business. Hilarious reading some of the reaction on the Spurs board, they reckon he is over rated!
Great pic of new signing Ozil and the Pod http://instagram.com/p/dy3fHMOJzf/# Arsenal and Germany forward Lukas Podolski publishes a picture of himself and new Gunners team-mate Mesut Ozil with the Premier League club's home shirt on Instagram. "AHA! Welcome as a new Gunner bro! So happy that Mesut is joining AFC and we can play together in the club, too. Come on Arsenal," says Podolski.
