Agreed, didn't we pay 1m for Sharp? Should get at least 800k back. I don't want to see the same thing that happened with de ridder. We cancel contract and 20mins later a cheapskate team is rubbing their hands.
£1.8m wasn't it? And even that was a bargain. Sharp is worth roughly £3m to a Championship club, imo. Would be even more than that, if only he had the capabilities of playing above the Championship (no club is going to pay, say, £6m if they're only going to have to follow our path and have to replace him should they get promoted)
So our window ends with 3 new signings. Lovren, Wanyama and Osvaldo. All top quality players for decent transfer fees. Also, we have signed Luke Shaw up on a 5 year deal and brought young Chambers and Ward-Prowse into the first team mix. The only down side was letting Puncheon go out on loan because he was a valuable player, but it is understandable considering he wants to start games every week and clearly wasn't here. Maybe, another similar player would have been terrific, but surely this is the best window we have ever had.
Disappointed today as I can't fathom the club's thinking. Why on earth we have got rid of 3 natural wide-men in De Ridder, Puncheon and Mayuka and failed to replace any of them is beyond me. We don't have a natural wide man in the squad at all now. We have J-Rod, Lallana, Ward-Prowse, Guly and Gaston to call on who all prefer playing through the middle. I would love to know Poch's thinking, I really would.
Mayuka isn't a natural wide man and De Ridder was useless. Plus, we don't actually play with natural wingers.
Well, we've lost one natural winger. While I'm disappointed we've not replaced him, calling it three is sensationalism. Mayuka is a striker, just because he's quick doesn't make him a winger. De Ridder is toss and wouldn't be getting near the team anyway, so is hardly a loss. Puncheon we should have replaced and I'm not happy about that, but the other two, no loss.
Everton want Lukaku on loan from Chelsea, according to Sky and Juliette Ferrington, the BBC's reporter at Everton today. Would be a great deal. Meanwhile, Everton have agreed a deal to sell Anichebe to West Brom, who are considering selling Shane Long to Hull. They have already sold Odemwingie to Cardiff, but are close to finalising the signing of Sessegnon from Sunderland. Sunderland in turn are close to confirming the signing of Fabio Borini on loan from Liverpool. Interesting.
So glad that Saints aren't involved in a deadline day rush. Looking at man Utd and Arsenal paying slightly over the odds for players makes me wonder why they didn't buy sooner. Glad Saints bought early.
