I wonder at what point Cortese has to explain these waste of money to the Liebherrs? I'm sure all signings are explained to them that they will have a "bigger resale value" Hmmm.
So Fox is far more important than Mayuka (no mention of the fact that's only because we don't have adequate backup for Shaw), and you consider Isgrove to be a more viable squad player than him. He's played even fewer minutes than Mayuka has.
He's barely had a chance to show if he's good or not..the way he has been handled has been a joke. Same with Forren previously. We desperately need to sign a winger after losing Puncheon as well
Fox is more important than Mayuka because he is second choice. We had to play him on Saturday, remember? Would I have preferred we signed another LB and got rid of Fox? Yes, but that hasn't happened. We need Fox as it stands. If you saw any of our pre-season, you should know exactly why I value Isgrove over Mayuka. And you'll notice he was the fifth player I listed in both wing positions.
I did, and I watched the cup game and over the course of the games they each played Mayuka impressed me more than Isgrove. If the only thing you consider is where each player is in the pecking order right now, we may as well close the academy because none of those boys are going to be in the matchday squad next weekend. And your lists of players who could play in those forward positions reused the same names as a lot, so it misrepresents how strong the squad is considerably.
Christ, I'm normally the cup half empty one on here. Seems like its up to me to spread some cheer around here today... We've still got Guly !!!!
Where in the world are you going with this? The academy produces players for the future. If Mayuka is going to improve in the future then great! We'll have him back from Sochaux. He hasn't improved in the slightest since we signed him, though. He's gone backwards if anything.
On the evidence of last season perhaps, but he looked sharp in pre-season and the cup game against Barnsley. Other players who haven't really improved since then and may even have gone backwards include Lallana, Rodriguez and Ramirez, I'm sure there will be plenty of takers if we make them available for loan too. Lambert's form hasn't been great lately has it? Let's put him on the transfer list as well, after all we've got plenty of strikers.
Come on PTF. There is little point keeping a player the manager appears to have very little intention of using and Pochettino clearly doesn't rate Mayuka. He's been in charge for 19 league games and of those Mayuka has only made the bench 8 times and only got on the pitch 4 times. This is where your comparison to Fonte, Fox and Hooiveld (and now Lambert I see!) falls down. Those players play regularly and selling (or loaning out) players who play regularly without replacing them is foolish. Loaning out a player who doesn't even make the bench most of the time is not. Now that's not to say that time played should be the only consideration. Nobody has ever suggested that. You can't compare Mayuka to Chambers because Chambers is 18 and has only just broken into the first team squad. I suppose Isgrove would be a fairer comparison (even though Isgrove is a bit younger than Mayuka) but I wouldn't have been bothered if we'd loaned Isgrove out either.
I don't really want to get into this squabble, and I'm not even quite sure where it is now going, but that for me is an important point. We don't have two Lallana's etc. Once you put three or four of Lambert, Osvaldo, Jay, Lallana and Gaston into the starting XI, that only leaves us with one or two for the bench. And that's only when everyone is fit and available. It's perfectly conceivable that we'll have to go into matches this season, especially at home, with none of them on the bench. Not ideal. God, even SDR was making the bench sometimes last season!! Yes there is Guly and Isgrove. But I thought we were aiming for top 10? Like I have said, as a stand-alone transfer, I don't care that we've loaned Mayuka out. I'm not sure I really rated him. But with Puncheon gone too, we are now incredibly short staffed in my view.
PTF, I concur that losing Mayuka does dent our depth (nowhere near as much as Puncheon did, of course), but you've totally lost me here.
My grandmother would look sharp against Barnsley. Lallana hasn't gone backwards, he had some poor form in the second half of last season and has started this season brightly. Rodriguez has gone from strength to strength. Ramirez is a genuine concern, and deserves to be on the bench, but he's still a lot more talented than Mayuka. Every one of those players you mentioned is more talented than Mayuka and was useful last season, despite some poor form in patches. Mayuka's entire time at Saints has been one big patch of poor form. If he does well at Sochaux then there's hope for him.
Sharp in pre-season and the cup game? On Tuesday night he was crap first half, Poch moved him wide and he scored. His goal did bounce fortunately off his foot accidentally and into space mind. A solid finish but he's been pretty unconvincing whenever he's been on the pitch. As for your recent comments, well you're just being pathetic.
The way I see it... we've lost a first team attacker and a squad player getting minimal minutes, who is young. We've gained a first team attacker (Osvaldo) and a squad player who will get minimal minutes, who is young (Isgrove).
We could do with a new Puncheon, but it's established that he left at his request, and we haven't had long to find a replacement. I'd be happy to see a winger come in who could offer us something new, but Mayuka didn't offer us anything that our other forwards don't already do. I'd be happy to simply see Isgrove get more time anyway, as I think he's very talented and I think some people forget he is in his 20s now.
I would agree on that being a fair assessment. (Although I did want another wide man even before Puncheon went)
